This. Tired of people living on welfare. I’ve personally had to use it when I was younger and going through a hard time, but it’s not to live your whole life on. There are people who are on it their entire life. That’s not the purpose of it. That needs to be stopped and people incentivized to improve their life, not make it a lifestyle…
here's what you miss. If we get rid of it or make it super onerous to qualify for, you would have probably not gotten it.
Welfare/SNAP/etc... is pennies. If someone abuses it, it's not worth ferreting out that tiny scrap to potentially stop someone like you from using it as a bridge to getting onto their feet and start *paying* taxes instead of consuming them. Kurt Warner was on food stamps. In his life, he has now paid enough taxes to cover a lifetime of SNAP for thousands of people. But without SNAP, he goes out and gets some sort of ramshackle full time job instead of focusing on becoming an NFL MVP.
SNAP is a lifestyle? That's a shitty lifestyle. Someone willing to just basically live stuffed into shitty housing and grub through life on SNAP and whatever they can scrounge up, wasn't going to amount to much anyway. But I'd prefer not to have the answer "let them die". Shit happens. And there are plenty of stories of the children of people who were lifelong n'eer do wells who rejected the premise and did very well.
It's like card counting. When the odds are in your favor, you bet big. Doesn't mean you'll win every hand, but you'll win in the long term. These programs have been around forever and have been subject to pittances of abuse forever. The net result has been the world's strongest economy and best lifestyle. Try to scrape the pennies and you'll end up blowing up the dollars.
