And then Trump came along…

And to be honest, I didn’t wake up until 2002 and beyond. I remember being “relieved” when Bush won Bush v Gore. Man was I stupid.

I was a level of conservative in 1996 that would have frightened Custard, Mn, and Judy.

And there wasn’t a conspiracy theory out there that I couldn’t get behind.

I refuse to shop at Walmart because the organization sucks. They treat their suppliers as bad as their employees. I wish they’d all go away. I don’t make their policies. Other similar businesses have shown that they can pay their employees a livable wage and still be cost competitive, so I give them my business.

I don't shop at Walmart but I will say this, the McCaskey's could not hold the Walton's jockstrap when it comes to drafting quarterbacks and building a winning football team.

I wasn’t enlightened enough to know the damage Reagan was doing. I only realized that 20 years later. I supported Bush I and abhorred Bill Clinton. I found Bush II to be a disaster in virtually every way.

Tempo voted for Bush I?

And I am a hardcore Republican??? Alrighty then....

This. Tired of people living on welfare. I’ve personally had to use it when I was younger and going through a hard time, but it’s not to live your whole life on. There are people who are on it their entire life. That’s not the purpose of it. That needs to be stopped and people incentivized to improve their life, not make it a lifestyle…

here's what you miss. If we get rid of it or make it super onerous to qualify for, you would have probably not gotten it.

Welfare/SNAP/etc... is pennies. If someone abuses it, it's not worth ferreting out that tiny scrap to potentially stop someone like you from using it as a bridge to getting onto their feet and start *paying* taxes instead of consuming them. Kurt Warner was on food stamps. In his life, he has now paid enough taxes to cover a lifetime of SNAP for thousands of people. But without SNAP, he goes out and gets some sort of ramshackle full time job instead of focusing on becoming an NFL MVP.

SNAP is a lifestyle? That's a shitty lifestyle. Someone willing to just basically live stuffed into shitty housing and grub through life on SNAP and whatever they can scrounge up, wasn't going to amount to much anyway. But I'd prefer not to have the answer "let them die". Shit happens. And there are plenty of stories of the children of people who were lifelong n'eer do wells who rejected the premise and did very well.

It's like card counting. When the odds are in your favor, you bet big. Doesn't mean you'll win every hand, but you'll win in the long term. These programs have been around forever and have been subject to pittances of abuse forever. The net result has been the world's strongest economy and best lifestyle. Try to scrape the pennies and you'll end up blowing up the dollars.

There will always be abuse, and there will always be corruption with that shit. That doesn't take away from the fact that, like you say, some people need it to get back on their feet. So, it's up to you to decide who really needs it and who really doesn't?

very simple

White person - using it to get back on their feet.
Black person - lifestyle

I shop at Walmart because they have certain products I want at a price I am willing to pay. They also have a store that happens to be conveniently located for my personal needs. It's easy to get to and other destinations are nearby. The only downside is the choice between self checkout or incredibly slow cashiers.

Or those same corporations that are creating jobs, bringing in money to the economy, and providing what PMan stated above?! What are the lazy fuckers providing that are taking advantage of the system?! Except drugs, crime, and hardship in their communities, please tell me what they are doing to benefit the world?!

I'm not gonna let some public sector goldbricker tell me about what corporations do.

You shouldn't have revealed yourself.

Creating jobs? Shit.

You better love the fact you're with the government. If that job was private sector, you'd have been laid off months ago, because my corporation has made your job irrelevant. ChatGPT can do your job 10x as good without the bitching.

Of course, you cannot tell me where I erred factually.  The corporations are funding the retirements of teachers and union members. As well as everyone else with a 401k.

That's a bit of a stretch. My company does fund my 401k to some extent, they match 10k per year. But even that is compensation for work that I do for the company. Teacher's retirements are part of their compensation, which is sourced from tax dollars. Individuals pay the majority of those tax dollars. Including teachers and union members.

I somehow survived Reagan and both Bush presidencies.

There are people who survive cancer, doesn't mean it was pleasant, most have a lower quality of life afterwards, and if given the choice would have skipped cancer completely.

But they somehow survived.

Low bar. I'm an american, not a commie. I prefer excellence, not "survival"
