So the Big 10 Champs are cancelling their annual end of season basketball banquet because they couldn’t be sure players would show up?

😂😂😂…

You could go at this from a few angles.  One, with NIL the players won’t show up unless they are paid so they have to cancel it.  Or two, there is such bad chemistry and mass transfers coming that it wouldn’t make sense to have one.

Both look bad.  So Illinois.

Someone said Kofi won’t make public appearances unless paid 75,000.

This is a charity event, and most pro athletes don’t even charge for charity events when going to them or giving away memorabilia to be auctioned off.

It’s not a good look when any sports team pisses on the booster club. Especially with NIL where presumably these people are the biggest donors and thus will directly/indirectly pay these guys.

They had 98 straight annual banquets till Covid hit

They stated they will make up the event before the beginning of next season. They just don’t know who all will be on the roster. Makes sense.

These are not "pro" athletes who, one would think, still get all their personal expenses paid for charity events.

They doesn’t make any sense.  The banquet is to celebrate the prior season. It doesn’t matter who is on the roster next year. 

They aren’t going to make up anything .
