Gard being 5th in Luck on Kenpom gets him ranked as the best B1G coach here.

Painter ahead of Pikiell?

Purdue was picked to win conference, and are now out of contention after losing to Wisconsin (picked to finish 10th) twice. They have underwhelmed at times. Especially on D which is usually Painter’s bread and butter.  They’ve really faltered down the stretch while controlling their own destiny. Or failing to control it I guess. They’re 3-3 in last six games including two losses to unranked teams.

Rutgers lost key players and were picked to do jack shit, started out rough, then came together and appear to be solidly in the tourney. They really seem to embody the toughness and grit of Pikiell.

Wisconsin had a weaker schedule than Purdue and Illinois and has been lucky apparently, but hard to deny Gard when they’re picked 10th and very likely will win conference outright at 16-4.

This is solid list but I would move Pikiell ahead of Painter. Purdue is struggling right now and has more talent than anyone. Their D is old Iowa like.
I give Underwood props for patching it together all year, but we are pretty inconsistent heading into tourneys. Have high ceiling if we pull it together.

Gard gets top spot as they have the W's and they have competed consistently and won with less talent than several other teams. They are actually 5th in KENPOM in the BT. Crazy.
I could see an early out in NCAA's.

McCaffery has a hot team right now that has improved. Player development has been impressive. If they beat us on Sunday and win one or two in BTT they get a 4/5 seed in NCAA.
Pikiel has a tough group of kids. Well coached. Overachieved and they deserve to get an NCAA bid.

The worst jobs have been Howard, and Izzo.
And Collins and Hoiberg are just bad, period.

I still think an EE is ceiling for any BT team.

I think this season neither has done that great of a job, but overall body of work Painter all day.
