First time I have seen Aldi's associated with social status.

American is not real cheese.

Most of our cheddar cheese is sort of fake too. It's real cheese. The color is fake.

Traditional cheddar made from the milk of pasture raised dairy cows has  a natural orange color from carotenes. So the public expects cheddar to be orange.

Since dairy herds are seldom pasture fed anymore, nearly all our cheddar these days is actually naturally white. Annatto dye is added to give it an orange color. Same with colby cheese.

Annatto also gives most of our butter its yellow color. Otherwise, it would resemble lard and lack eye appeal
