Belo, Needs to realize he is not YET to the point of Believing the Hype, so Don't as the song says and play your game.

Plummer and DMW will be in almost a virtual timeshare by middle of conference play, too early to trust Plummer yet but he will get there.

Podz looks to be way overwhelmed, speaks to Wis. level of players last year-Player of the Year...he is not B1G ready.

Melendez will give us some quality before year end imo, he seems to have a comfort level on court when he does play even if he makes freshman mistakes or gets lost sometimes.

Goode will be pushing for more minutes early in conference play imo.

Kofi will not be our savior, but will free up some better looks possibly for guards, but it won't matter much if our guards cannot keep control of ball and not turn it over every other trip up the floor (Belo) mostly.
"We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."

Custard is probably Rees Woodcock.

Sooo, he has a slow start so he is done? He is a shooter and needs to shoot. DaMonte is 5-20.
No, just that he wasn't the answer v. Marquette.

Fuck the both of you. If I had the time and inclination to write about Illinois athletics beyond what I currently do, the results would put people out of business.

Did Custard just anoint himself the best Illini athletics voice in existence? And you guys say I have an ego! 😂

I don't care how small of a lineup we have. We are not guarding anyone anyway, and never really have. He is best three point threat we have had in very very long time.
You have to play this guy big minutes and give him the complete green light. Teams will have to game plan around him every night.
I think there should be little debate after this week. Saved us twice already while the rest of team besides Kofi is a deer in the headlights.
15-26 in last three games from three. 13/21 in last two games.
I do not recall another Illini with 15 threes in a 3 game span.

I hate to say it but it is pretty easy to game plan for a 6’ guy who really can’t create his own shot, especially since we don’t seem to have designed plays to get him clean looks.

With Curbelo and Frazier out he’s going to get a lot of opportunity, but I don’t expect him to continue to play at this level with consistency.

I get it. You don't think much of him. You want longer wings who can slash and get to the hole. You always want an idealized Baylor constructed roster. But even their title team had a rotation of four guards all 6'3" or smaller taking a butt load of threes and a 6'5" guy at the 4. What Baylor did do is play great very tough hard nosed defense at all slots and shoot the ball like a bitch.

Unless somebody develops for us we don't have any true get their own guys. Hawkins or Hutch might down the road. The frosh are not athletic enough. Damonte and Grandison are mechanical. Trent never has been able to. Curbelo is out of control too much, but really attacks to pass- not score.

Somehow or other Plummer has gotten 26 looks from 3 in last three games. If it was so easy to stop him they would have. He doesn't need much room or time. He gets into his textbook one motion shot quickly with a rhythm dip and has a fairly quick release.
He is already into his shooting motion while he is catching and turning in one motion off of curls. This guy probably has the best pure shooting form and feet positioning we have seen here in years. He has range it appears out to 25 feet.
Yes, he is one dimensional as fuck. But, the game is won by who scores the most points. They have to plan for him and that helps create space and time for others.

News Alert- We don't have anyone else who can really create their own shot off the dribble. Curbelo kind of, but too many are circus attempts.  And in case you missed last season- we really didn't then either except for Ayo versus weaker defenders.
Good defenders shut him down in half court. Great guy in open court without question.

Feliz was last guy who could actually reliably create his own in half court.

Of course Plummer is not going to hit 6 or 7 threes a game. Of course he will have some games where he is 1-7.
Followed up by a game where he goes 5-8. Would be nice if these kind of guys could go 3/8 every game.
But he certainly could average 2.5 to 3 a game if given enough minutes and shots. He made 2.6 per game last year.
He shot 40% from three at Utah over 2 years in a P5 conference that made the BT look silly last March.

I would say 11-12 ppg avg is very reasonable goal. This is an experienced proven P5 scorer.
He is now averaging 12.6 ppg for us. He went for 13.6 ppg last year.

That’s kind of a straw man. I think a whole lot of him for what he is (a fantastic catch and shoot guy) but being 6’ and not really a creator I think it’ll be fairly easy for teams not named K State or Rio Grande Valley to take him away when we don’t have Trent or AC available as additional threats/distributors.

Teams will see tape and start game planning for him and throwing their best perimeter defender (likely with some length) at him. And he’s a liability on D right now but who isn’t.

And he hasn’t played a season in the B1G where the refs will let opposing guards grab and hold him all game.

I’d love to be wrong.

I’d expect to get from Plummer what we’ve gotten so far, which is what he was at Utah.  A streaky dude who will have multi-game stretches where he shoots 25% and multi-game stretches where he shoots 50+%.

His Junior year at Utah he was shooting in the low-mid 30’s with 2 regular season games left and in those two plus a conference tourney game he went 21/35, finished at 42% on the season.

How effective he is for the team will depend on how quick Underwood gets him out when he’s not making shots, IMO.
