Reporter asked about his previous comments on not liking Illinois, and the rest of the Big Ten not liking Illinois.

His full response was:

"I think that quote got a little miscontrued. The players aren't that bad. I'm cool with Kofi. I don't really know Curbelo too much but he seems cool. It's really their fans. They just act like they're some powerhouse in the Big Ten and they're really not. I mean they're one of the best teams in the Big Ten now. ... I think their fans are kind of annoying. You know, obviously some fans are kind of... Michigan State, you're gonna get a lot of hate from them. Ohio State, not too bad. But Illinois' fans, they are just pretty annoying. I'm not gonna lie."

I kind of agree that a lot Illinois fans think they are a better program than the results would indicate.
We haven't really done a fcking thing in 16 years.

We had a great shot to do something last year and totally shit the bed.

We get a redo this year with arguably a more dangerous team.
We better make a fcking S16 this year.

That said- most home fanbases at actual games are kind of assholes.

It’s not hard to see why Illinois fans are the way they are. Not many programs (both football and basketball) have such high highs and low lows. And have never won a championship.

Illinois basketball is historically one of the best programs and has never won a national championship despite having some great seasons.

We also have a populous state with a great basketball city in Chicago only two hours from campus.

These things create a somewhat unique situation that leads Illini fans to expect greatness. But the low lows also create this simmering self-loathing that manifests itself on social media when we are actually good.

But at the same time fuck that guy he’s completely overrated and is 100% Kofi’s bitch. I couldn’t be happier that Illinois is occupying his head rent free.
