It happens, we also replaced great players with more great players in those days. But the old “addition by subtraction” take has been trotted out a large handful of times the last 15 years or so. It’s been a while since it worked.

It’s possible it could happen, it would be the first time that particularly take will have been correct probably since the earliest incarnations of Illini message boards if it does. And usually, you’re not “better because someone left,” you’re better because other players improved. Do you think this team would be “worse” with Ayo? Doubtful.
