I actually unfriended my buddy on FB. Still trying to say “they were lying to us (had a picture of Fauci)” with it. How in the fuck can you watch one or your otherwise healthy closest friends die from Covid then turn around and say “they lied to us?” WTF. I was out at that point. One of the 5 best friends I ever had.

Sorry to hear that. A guy I knew for a while went full Trumpist, complete with banners and signs. He's still on the friend list, but I keep his posts blocked.

It’s kinda weird to me that you’re so sensitive to how someone feels politically that you have to block them. I really hate the fact that modern social media has essentially allowed people to isolate themselves in a cocoon of only that which we feel comfortable consuming. Back in the day you got exposed to a lot of viewpoints, some of which may resonate and others which may make a person uncomfortable.

But sometimes uncomfortable thoughts and ideas cause a person to challenge their own personal beliefs, to try and be empathetic and understand why another person might feel the way they do.  It’s a fundamental part of growing and evolving. Now people block anyone they don’t agree with and isolate themselves in an echo chamber. Then label anyone outside their cocoon as a “radical”. It’s perhaps the worst wide-scale turn for free human discourse that’s occurred in any of our lifetimes. Except maybe Nichi and Alum, who remember the Spanish Inquisition and Salem Witch Trials.

It wasn’t his political beliefs. It’s the fact one of his 3 best friends died of Covid and he’s talking about how “Fauci lied to us.” The guy was a fire chief. I’m guessing he was in decent health. I found that absolutely appalling. I’m pretty patient with people who have different political beliefs. Do you think I lack enthusiasm for arguing?

I’ve literally gotten into dozens and hundreds of arguments without blocking people. I have zero issues with sensitivity in this regard. I only block the people who go overboard (can’t engage in adult discussions) or are blatantly racist.

It’s certainly possible three of his best friends (that’s mathematically absurd, but I’ll play along) died from the Rona. But that doesn’t disqualify him from questioning the guidance and protocol that was pushed by Fauci and national/state government during the pandemic. There’s plenty of evidence that vaccine safety and efficacy was overstated, that the risk to younger people was dramatically and perpetually overstated, that we didn’t do a good enough job protecting the truly vulnerable (especially in democrat run states that had the strictest requirements for those least at risk) and looking back the Great Barrington Declaration was, empirically, probably the best protocol that surfaced during the pandemic. But was dismissed as “fringe science” put forth by “fringe epidemiologists” in order to keep the sham lockdown protocol of ineffective cloth masks and keeping healthy young people home and not working until a rushed relatively untested vaccine could be rolled out…that wouldn’t really slow the spread and has risks all its own.
