I watched this with my Purdue fan neighbors. Two weeks in a row electing to punt the ball away with 4th and short in opponents territory late in the game with the lead when you’ve got a 240 lb running back it takes 7 guys to tackle. Fucking stupid and gutless.

That last series was fucking trash. They had a minute or more with a timeout from the 25 or whatever and elected to have Peters throw the ball. There was plenty of time to run McCray a time or two and have a 3rd or 4th and short situation.

This team is so close to being 4-1 but is 1-4 because of some horrific decisions during closing time of three very winnable games. If I were Whitman I’d have left Peterson in West Lafayette.

I don't have much of a problem not going for it on 4th down vs Md or PU.
A fg would have put us up 6. A miss gives PU the ball at their 35 with 9 1/2 to go. It looked like a long 3 yards that we needed for the 1st down.
If we only had a play in our play book to hit Barker for 5 yards, and a qb who could do it. Like the play other teams have. We don't appear to have either one.
I think I saw Peters was 2-7 on 1st down pass plays. I don't understand the desire to be facing 2nd and 10, so we can give the ball to the rb for 2 yards on 2nd down.
And I have to assume Peters is the best qb on the roster.

You mean why didn't McCray get the ball on 3rd down, or maybe fake the hand off to McCray and let Peters run for it on 4th ? I think that was a long 3 yards.
I think 9 1/2 min left was a big part of the decision.
