Nah, that trade was and always will be the right move at the time, despite the RISK!

Mack being wasted and no draft picks to plug all the other holes....

The other holes didn’t matter and I don’t trust Pace or Nagy to make them. The hole was quarterback and it was terrible. The Mack trade had nothing to do with that.

The o line is as bad as the Illini o line
No QB. No depth at LB. And Mack taking up a lot of cap space and not making a difference like he did year 1. Job well done all around.

Literally everyone acknowledged it might not work out as desired (RISK!!!!), but it was the right move at the time.

Those are separate issues and unrelated to the Mack trade that had little to no bearing on the Bears problems. Cap space so Pace can sign a Robert Quinn, Mike Glennon, Nick Foles, draft shitty players in the 1st round, not pay Allen Robinson? Nah man, Mack had no impact on all that. Completely separate issues. Mack being doubled every game and still had an all-pro season.

Idk the Bears are usually vanilla AF and they went and made a blockbuster move. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

But Mack/the defense/Cuck Pagano aren’t the problem, the problem is the horrific offense that can’t stay on the fucking field regardless of QB.

So the logical Bears move is to keep the offensive guru HC (who was forced to quit calling plays mid season) and move on from the defensive coordinator (who himself was a demonstrably better HC than Nagy is.)

What the hell is the point of retaining a guy they hired as HC to develop MT and be an offensive guru when it’s clear he hasn’t done either and won’t do either? What does Matt Nagy bring to the table?

Terrible decision making is why this franchise sucks and will continue to suck.

We all know what’s going to happen here.

1. Bears lose a heartbreaker to Packers

2. but Zona loses and Bears make playoffs anyways.

3. Playoffs!!! JOBS ARE SAFE!!!

4. Bears lose first playoff game on a triple doink. Or a butt fumble.

5. Mitch and Nagy sign modest extensions.

6. Bill Lazor gets a small raise to reward him for improving the offense and taking some heat off Nagy.

7. This leaves the Bears without a proper scape goat so

8. They fire a couple positional coaches. agree to part ways with the best coach on the staff

9. Hilarity ensues, in perpetuity

In response to this and others:

The D's inability to get off the field was an issue the whole season. Mack is not dominating like he did year 1 and you paid him a ton and gave away draft picks for him. The O line sucks and has sucked. Manti Te'o was a starting linebacker last weekend. The negative ramifications of the Mack trade (along with their other boneheaded moves) are vast. So far, with an 0-2 playoff record (and one playoff spot due to COVID), the trade was a waste.

Literally everyone acknowledged it might not work out as desired (RISK!!!!), but it was the right move at the time.

Sure, the “value” was there, but with a franchise with so many unsettled questions, turns out they sure could have used that draft capital and cap space. You got zero playoff wins and have set the franchise back a few years. The trade was a bust. And always “risky.”
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

Yep. You called it at the time, noting the dire need for a QB, and got a lot.of crap for it. Meanwhile, the Bears are now an 8-8 franchise going nowhere, Leonard Floyd had more sacks than Mack did this year, and people are still doubling down on their bad trade analysis.

The thing is if Pace and Nagy are as bad as we all believe them to be, then the whole Mack trade isn’t even worth debating in a vacuum because 1) it was made by incompetent people 2) those draft picks and cap space would have been utilized by the same incompetent people. The same people who found cap space for Robert Quinn’s deal but couldn’t shore up an O Line that’s has been killing this team and any QB that lines up behind it.

The argument could also be made that because the Bears have drafted and acquired so poorly that if the Mack deal hadn’t happened there may well have been zero playoff appearances and no division title in 2018.

And with so many more personnel decisions to have been made it’s possible the 2021 team would have been made up almost entirely of Pace’s beloved diamonds in the rough. Or they may well have made an even worse big free agent signing sometime between the Mack deal and now.

I don’t think the Mack deal kept them from not still sucking at their jobs and they would have just found another way(s) to do it. The Bears are a poorly run franchise that has borne a lot more resemblance to the Lions than the Packers during the vast majority of my lifetime and my entire adulthood. Then I heard George and Teddy the other day and that was the last straw for me. Since I was already in the process of washing my hands of this shithole state, I went ahead and washed my hands of this clown show sports franchise along with it. Thoroughly enjoyed my first game as a Packers fan yesterday. No regerts.

This is basically the Bears version of the "keep Zook and Weber" arguments.

Would never root for the Packers. Ever. You going to root for Duke next when you get tired of Illini incompetence?
