I can't get through this whole thread, but there's a lot of junk in there.

The more apt comparison is Rick Ankiel. Ankiel was looking like he was going to be a generational talent at pitcher, started the first game of the Division series in the playoffs, and then went completely off the rails between the 2nd and 3rd inning, going from 2 clean innings to not even finishing the third after throwing five wild pitches. Now, he didn't pull himself, LaRussa pulled him, but if Biles crashed and burned in the Vault she would have been pulled from the uneven bars if she wasn't injured. Ankiel didn't just have a bad inning, his career basically went to pot and he switched to Centerfield

Ankiel was having a huge season. Biles EASILY won the US Trials - if she was a "quitter" why did she go out and post a performance that would win the Olympics at the trials, then decide not to just win the Olympics?

Differences being that Ankiel could stay out there all day long, give up a ton of runs, but not break his neck.

There is a reason the team (Cardinals and US Olympic squad) has backups

How do we know Ankiel got the yips? Because he threw a bunch of wild pitches.

"The yips" is not "torn ligament" - it means your head isn't talking to your body anymore - one could say "you have a mental health issue"

Biles screwup was letting "mental health issues" be the headline instead of "I got the twisties"

Biles did the right thing in not feeling the need to defend her position or reducing herself to the people who declared it a mental health issue. A gymnast with the yips could become a gymnast with serious health issues quite easily.
It's not like a pitcher not being able to find the plate.
