It really is amusing how often they violate all the things I take training on every year. I guess that's why congress is seen as dysfunctional and we're a 2 trillion dollar company

You have to remember that Congress has exempted itself from quite a few laws....including Title VII.

If I do a bad job, I can get fired, but in a well run company, it's more that the company may struggle and we make less money, so there is less compensation, stock doesn't go up, maybe even layoffs. Congress does in theory have the same incentive, but it's much further removed from the rank and file congressperson. Especially since they can pass laws that might be bad for the country as a *whole*, but their own district does better at a much greater expense to other districts. It's an institution that would function best with altruists, but requires narcissism in order to get the job.

Don't fool yourself, if you kick ass as an employee but have the habit of, for example, making offensive comments to co-workers, you may not get fired.

UIUC was a pretty awesome place to go to school.

My son is coming out this summer for orientation. Yes, I could yelp all this stuff but this is more fun...

Is Mary Ann's Diner still there? Custard Cup? Most importantly, Papa Dels and La Bamba? I think I heard both the Wright St and Green St Papa Dels are RIP

Mary Ann’s still is, but only one location. The one downtown closed. Papa Del’s is still open on Neil Street. Custard Cup is still going. La Bamba I believe is closed 😭

Shit. We have burrito places all over the place here, but last time I was in Champaign I went to La Bamba, and I don't think it was nostalgia, it's just that freaking good. Their hot sauce was one of a kind.

Same for Papa Dels. There are 3-4 mini chains around here with very decent pizza, one named "Blue Line Pizza" after the L train because the guy used to live near the blue line. Very good, I think better than Giordanos or Malnatis, frankly. But Papa Dels tops them all in my book.

Looks like there is one out by the Mall. Also a Garcia's - I presumed that was long DOA. My first trip to Champaign I went to the one at Wright and Green, and saw Ken Norman. That pretty much sealed the deal, I was going to be an Illini

Couldn't agree more on Papa's.  Sunday night pizza rocked.
