Of course, the Gazans could just free the hostages, the IDF would go home, and there would be new elections in Israel and Netanyahu would be gone. They don't want that. They'd rather continue to rape women and hold babies hostage.
Kudos to Tempo for supporting misogyny and hostage taking. But not baseball and basketball players.
"The Gazans" don't have the hostages. Hamas is in control, and it's just a massive mess. But yes, Hamas doesn't want Netanyahu gone. As long as Netanyahu is running the show, the chaos continues - and Hamas wants chaos. I don't think the raping and hostaging is for the sake of raping and hostaging, it's because as terrorists, they know that they need to find the bottom of the barrel to keep the chaos raging, and that's the point.
It puts Israel in a no win situation. The stuff on Oct 7 was so atrocious that they have to do whatever they need to do in order to stop more of that. The problem is, that as part of the civilized world, they are "expected" to accomplish that without killing a bunch of random impoverished civilians who happen to live in a terrorist state. All while the terrorists, being clever terrorists, put their weapons and command/control embedded in with the random civilians.
I have plenty of sympathy for the random civilians but fall on the side of Israel pretty much has to deal with Hamas, despite the high prevalence of collateral damage. To me, that's on Hamas. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
