I have never heard of a 2 year prohibition on recruiting a program after hiring a coach from that program.
And Hawthorne, a good db, played for us.
Oh, you played at Illinois ? We'll you can take a job there, but they can't recruit any of your players for 2 years.

It has only been a rule in roundball since 2011 and football since 2017.

If Hawthorne were a full assistant; it would not be a problem. He is Director of High School Personnel and Illini Relations. Prior to that; he was a db coach at ESL..

Interesting distinction. So if you want a recruit, you just give his coach a full time assistant position.

Nick Saban has issued a stern warning over the way that Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) legislation has been implemented in college football. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the legendary Alabama coach said "I don't think what we're doing right now [with NIL] is a sustainable model."

"The concept of name, image and likeness was for players to be able to use their name, image and likeness to create opportunities for themselves. That's what it was," said Saban. "But that creates a situation where you can basically buy players. You can do it in recruiting. I mean, if that's what we want college football to be, I don't know. And you can also get players to get in the transfer portal to see if they can get more someplace else than they can get at your place."

I really feel for you Nick.  This damned NIL and transfer portal kinda cuts into your business model.  4-5 star kids are less likely to be patient waiting in the wings for a couple of years for their chance to shine.  Now they can reap more immediate benefits.  Suck a lemon!

Yeah he’s a big dude. The representing the Illini part I’m sure. I spoke with him and his ESL teammates at the scrimmage. Miles went to talk to some people and I spoke with Antwon. Antwon said Miles is close to making a decision/commitment and possibly joining him. They all seemed pretty receptive to building a pipeline. It’d be a great program to have on your side.
