Apparently, everyone except Kofi. Or he knows it, but he was just kidding.

I did not start start following college ball yesterday. When guys exaggerate their ability to the press, and imply they are being used wrong, it can be a red flag. Possible cause for concern. Up to now, Kofi presents as a good guy and a team player, not a head case, so it  might just be a nothing burger.

Illinois is using an official service/company that quantifies the amount for the player that they will get paid via NIL and endorsements. In Garcia’s case it was something like 200k ish.

Other schools are not using that company and instead just throwing out numbers. Illinois is actually doing things the *correct* way …but…yeah. I know UNC tossed out a number significantly higher. Doesn’t mean that player will ever see that money, but they are being told they will.

So basically it's like ebay for players. Except we want to do a buy it now, and other schools are outbidding us. This bullshit is ruining everything. It's now about money, not the school or program. At least in the NBA, you don't get to pick your team. Smaller schools are screwed.

It is new. Players were not making millions under the table, it was a rare occurrence when maybe a booster paid some players under the table or give a recruit's family member a cushy well paying job. There were rules in place, and it was a risky endeavor to break them.

It's cute that you think there is no difference between the past and the current NIL scenarios. It's much different now.
