I want the slot(s) filled but I’d rather they shoot for the stars, take their time, and get the right guy. Hopefully Frazier can keep the commits on board in meantime.
I agree with that in theory, but we are having trouble getting any of the supposed top picks to consider making the change (K. Young who OA suggested, Mennenga, Powell, Huss, Pinkins, C. Young, etc).
We need to be objective and not fans and acknowledge that this is simply a tougher sell than one might think for attracting already established high level P5 guys. Might need to focus on rising assistants at P5 wanting to move up if we can't snag one of these types.
Challenges are:
-Small town Rural Illinois location.
-Chicago recruiting is a shithole sleazy knife fight over overrated prima donnas.
-BT is all slobbering over the same regional kids in midwest
-The elite recruits get courted by bluebloods, of course.
-A lot of parity in league and pretty tough highly scouted league overall
-Shit weather pretty much year round
-Rednecks everywhere downstate if you are POC and you have to consider your family.
-We will not likely push the rules as far as a few other schools might.
-I don't know if eligibility admission is an issue anymore. It used to be somewhat. I am out of the loop on that these days.
Of course we are certainly an historically respected successful program overall, have a good group returning, a fairly decent head coach who seems personable, and are in solid second tier of P5 and trying to move back up to first tier.
Hopefully we get a guy(s) who can help pull us back off the cliff of being just in the pack.
