I think we are doing the right thing here.
Otherwise we will remain a second tier p5 program trying to climb up the lobster barrel.

Michigan (and MSU) are both in Top 10 nationally in '21 and are ahead of others in recruiting in BT.
Michigan has #1 ranked class in nation added to whoever stays there.

We are 29th nationally in 2021 and that will be our on court ceiling range moving forward year in and year out unless we keep OA.
Luckily we have a Top 50 guy in Curbelo to run the show and some returning vets and transfers this year and we might surprise in 21-22 a little bit.
2022 has two 3 star guys- both who look like likely risers, but you do not make a living on guys outplaying their rankings.

Recruiting is going to be a crazy hybrid of HS and transfers moving forward. You need guys with a lot of contacts and relationships.

Rankings are like $$$,  Anyone who coach's and says 5* guys aren't everything is the same as the person who states $$ isn't everything....maybe both are true, however, BOTH make life alot easier. In some cases 5* players = $$$ bills ya'll.

Why post it now, after all the internet rumors etc? Seems to me the university could be covering themselves as to say "Hey we posted this for everyone to apply"? But if that were the case, then why after the OA and Chin debacle? If anything, posting now seems to tell me they are not so sure anymore as they might have once been?

I have to say I have no clue like a lot of things as to what is really going on. LOL.
If Breal says OA is possibly still in play- I believe him.

There are requirements at state funded universities to post open positions.
May be a formality.
May be they could not post it until the other guys had accepted jobs and resigned.

I agree with the fact that job openings are to be posted, I don't think it is just a state funded mandated thing anymore only either. If that were the case however should it not have been posted prior to all the rumors and conjecture in regards to OA or Chin or both being done deals?

The unfortunate death of the UK player and the fact both assistants are on vacations impacted the timing. Id be surprised if by Friday night there wasn’t more known, at least on one of them

Illinois has started talks with replacement(s) and will be prepared for any scenario

The absence of leaks is impressive.

When Tony Yates took the Cinncinnati job, lots of people figured Lou Henson would be hurting. Then Jimmy Collins was as good or better in some ways.

Yes, losing them to lateral moves is not the same. And OA is a unique asset.

“Taking a trip? Where to?”  -“Wherever I end up, I guess. -“Man, I wish I was you." -Well, hang in there.”

Possibly an ex head coach or two, joining us if ours leave?

Still subscribing to the Guenther newsletter?

The short answer is "yes."

Nah, I subscribe to rationality.  It was a ridiculous comparison to make.

Self is basically Underwood and Coleman combined into one person so I think I'd agree with spark on that.

Nah, I subscribe to rationality.  It was a ridiculous comparison to make.

The absence of an argument, and your failure to produce any evidence in its furtherance, removes your contribution from that lofty categorization. There's nothing rational about a reactionary response.

It's a comparison of equal situations, almost mirroring each other. Two basketball coaches. Two athletic directors. One decision about money.

Guenther had idealistic fantasies about the business of Power 5 college sports. Whitman didn't act proactively, and found himself in the same position. His relationship with OA wasn't in the best shape to begin with.

That BU knew nothing about "performance bonuses" and "retention incentives" for his assistants, as late as April 19, shows that the program remains unprepared for prime time.

Hmmmmmmm. If that is accurate then we left the door ajar. We were done on March 21st unfortunately. Anybody could have surmised that OA and Chin would be attractive. I know people talk about Gentry being a crack strategist, but that is not evident really at all IMO.

I don't know about the relationship status between Whitman and the assistants. I am going to guess that
the working definition of the grey area of recruiting was a bit narrower under Whitman than what OA was used to.

FWIW, there is a guy on the 247 board who presents as an insider insistent that OA is not going.
I guess we will know here soon.
Maybe we just lose Chin.

If Gentry is Hulka’s little binky then keep him I guess and tell him to play well with others and maybe read a book on Zone Defenses for Dummies.

I would not put money on Chin staying, unless Kentucky has a change of heart.

There’s a pretty intriguing list of candidates being thrown around. Losing Antigua undoubtedly sucks but I don’t think Coleman will be a big deal assuming he goes.

Will Bailey...this guy has been mentioned all week. South Carolina AC with Chicago/downstate  ties. I believe there’s been contact and reciprocated interest

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/college/southcarolina/.amp/basketball/bailey-named-assistant

Menenga (Oregon) been mentioned a lot. Excellent recruiter with Illinois ties.

And this one is just odd to me considered what went down....but a Jamal Walker return
