All valid, but I wonder if we made any proactive efforts. People may disagree, but I don't think Underwood was the thing attracting the top guys here, as we are just a decent second tier P5 program.
Nothing special about going to Illinois vs another non-elite P5 school. You need the relationships, your own cred, a history of getting guys to NBA, and national success to call upon. He checked all the boxes.

And yeah, we will fill the position(s) with qualified person(s), it just seemed like we finally seemed to have some developing momentum and visibility nationally.

Need to keep Coleman, and find a guy.

We lowballed, he bailed and we both won national championships and 15 straight conference titles.

And we still only have to pay our coach $635k annually.

No, I just thought it was funny because you tried spinning losing a top assistant as a net positive, and while reading what you wrote I heard “it takes four years to capitalize on losing a top assistant” in my head.

I was just thinking this had a Self vibe to it........

I also recall the posts we exchanged several weeks ago to pay these guys and get them locked in.
It was pretty obvious people would come after them. But maybe we did all we could.

And we will move on.
