ICE got this guy and his 8 molotov cocktails off the street, for now. Is the ICE version presented by WLS correct?
...

I like how the media tosses in the "immigration cases" part when the story is about a guy with molotov cocktails. Traveling from Oak Lawn to Orland Park with molotov cocktails isn't 'immigrating' in my book. 😄

If it's only about the Molotov cocktails; then why is ICE even involved?

Turns out MAGA doesn't like it so much when it happens to them. A tearful Trump voter has gone viral after his fiancée was arrested by ICE, and now he's calling it "the Gestapo."

John Gannon, a 75-year-old Texas Republican, watched eight ICE agents surround 45-year-old Yasmin Suarez Reyes at a Houston airport and haul her into a car without a word of explanation.

His fiancée came into the country legally in 2023, applied for asylum, and while her case sat in the government's own backlog she was granted a work permit and a Texas driver's license. No criminal record. She was on her way to a furniture convention in Las Vegas when plainclothes agents pulled her out of the terminal.

She has been in a jail cell for two weeks since.

Here is the part worth remembering. ICE is not kicking down cartel doors. It is standing in airport terminals collecting people whose paperwork is technically pending, because that is the easy number to hit. A woman with a driver's license and an open asylum claim is a softer target than an actual criminal, and soft targets fill a quota faster.

Gannon thought the deportations were for "the criminals." He wants them to "leave the mom and pops and the kids alone." He says he feels totally betrayed.

He is describing, with real anguish, the exact policy he voted for.

The cruelty was never a malfunction. It was the product. He assumed the machine came with a setting that recognized people like him.

It does not. That is the entire point of a machine like this.

Gannon is not some powerless bystander. He is a wealthy man who owns more than a thousand billboards across the country, the kind of guy who can put any message he wants in front of millions of drivers.

And this is where it stops being about one heartbroken billboard mogul and starts being about everyone who never got a CBS interview.

Thousands of families have already been split apart the same quiet way, with no famous fiancé and no camera crew.

Yasmin's case is not unusually harsh. It is ordinary. It only reached the news because the man who loves her happens to own a thousand billboards, and all that money and reach still could not stop eight agents from walking off with her.

That is the thing about a system that treats a human being as a number to be filled. Sooner or later it reaches for someone you love, and it will not care what you own, how much tax you pay, or who you voted for.

Gannon says that if he could talk to Trump he would ask him, "What are you doing?"

The government already answered. She overstayed. Pending applications do not confer legal status. She will get her hearing.

Rule of law, they call it. He calls it the Gestapo. Same policy. He only noticed the day it walked into an airport and took the person standing next to him.

When the article mentions local officials it's referring to the Mokena Police Dept, who then contacted the Illinois State Fire Marshall's office. Also contacted were the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The story is not about immigration. The story is about a local police department contacting federal agencies about a guy with molotov cocktails who may have had plans for the mosque in Orland Park.

You didn't mention that she entered the country in 2023 on a 90 day visa.

You didn't mention that she applied for asylum with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in January 2024, before the 90 days elapsed. That case is still pending. That is probably why she was able get a work permit and a Texas driver's license in the meantime. Besides the fact she has no criminal record.

The asylum case doesn't necessarily prevent deportation.
She entered the country on a 90 day visa. She didn't enter requesting asylum.

On June 29, 2026, three alleged members of the transnational criminal organization, TdA, were charged in the Northern District of Illinois with participating in a conspiracy to kidnap and murder a man in Chicago.

The criminal complaint charges Josue Pacheco Torres, 26, Julian Pachano, 19, and Kleiver Monasterio Briceno, also known as “Goofy,” 20, with kidnapping conspiracy and committing a kidnapping that resulted in death.

👀

The Facts of Her Case

Legal Entry: Suarez Reyes entered the U.S. legally on October 24, 2023, under the Visa Waiver Program using her Spanish passport, with authorization to stay until January 21, 2024.

Pending Asylum Application: She filed an affirmative asylum application on January 19, 2024—two days before her authorized stay expired. Her application remains backlogged and pending.

Work Permit and ID: she has no criminal record, possessed a valid U.S. work permit (EAD), and held a Texas driver’s license.

Current Status and Legal Battle

Suarez Reyes is being held at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas. Her attorney, Anne Kennedy, has filed an emergency federal habeas corpus petition demanding her release, arguing that she was a proper affirmative applicant who had the legal right to travel domestically while awaiting her USCIS interview.

 👀
President Trump campaigned and took office on a major platform of mass deportation targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records, referring to them as the "worst of the worst".

Nope.

I asked a question about alleged illegal alien Tren de Aragua members and a murder in Chicago.
You don't appear to post very many stories of these "immigration" cases.

I haven't looked at it in detail. If ICE and BP sometimes does what they should actually be doing, good for them.

 👀
Internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) records show that roughly 60% to 70% of individuals arrested have criminal charges or convictions, but only about 5% to 14% involve violent offenses. Nearly 40% have no criminal record at all, being held for civil immigration violations.

No Criminal Record: ~40% of people arrested by ICE have no criminal convictions or pending charges and are held strictly for civil status violations like visa overstays.

Violent Crimes: Less than 14% of total arrests involve charges or convictions for violent offenses (such as assault, homicide, sexual assault, or robbery).

Specific Violent Offenses: Homicide and sexual assault charges/convictions each make up roughly 1% to 2% or less of total arrestees.

Nonviolent Convictions: The majority of criminal records among detainees are for nonviolent offenses, including traffic infractions, driving under the influence (DUI/DWI), immigration violations, and minor drug possession.

Gang Affiliation: Fewer than 2% of individuals taken into custody have been identified or accused by authorities of being gang members.

She's a dual national born in Venezuela and a citizen of Spain. She entered the country legally on a VISA Waiver Program using her passport from Spain, allowing for a 90 day stay as a tourist or on short term business.
Some may say that she's been in the country illegally for 2 1/2 years, and could have accepted cash and a flight to either Spain or Venezuela by self-deporting.

She didn't enter the country requesting asylum. The application for asylum occurred at the end of her 90 day VISA stay for tourism or short term business.

Texas is in the 5th Circuit. During the Obama administration the 5th Circuit entered an opinion that read ....
"An alien who is a citizen or national of more than one country but has no fear of
persecution in one of those countries does not qualify as a “refugee”
under section
101(a)(42) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(42) (2006), and is
ineligible for asylum."

Section 101(a)(42) of the Act provides in pertinent part:
The term “refugee” means (A) any person who is outside any country of such
person’s nationality . . . and who is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or
unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of that country because of
persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality,
membership in a particular social group, or political opinion . . . .

Regardless of the respondent’s claimed fear of returning to Venezuela,
he did not express any fear of persecution in Spain.
Therefore the
Immigration Judge properly concluded that the respondent is ineligible for
asylum. Accordingly, the respondent’s appeal will be dismissed.
ORDER: The appeal is dismissed.

👀
The 2013 decision in the 5th Circuit also involved Spain, Venezuela and a dual national with an application for asylum.

Did she lie on her asylum application ? There are laws against that.

All of the above is moot since her case is backlogged and pending. You are speculating  about the outcome of a hearing that has yet to occur.

Fuck that guy. Aiding and abetting a criminal he knew was illegal just so he could dip his ancient wick. Deport him too
