Yesterday afternoon a couple asked us if we’d like to go to dinner with them last night. Granted it’s a holiday weekend and lots of people go out to eat, but we couldn’t get a reservation anywhere. Wait times for walk-ins were 60-90 mins. This isn’t downtown or some tourist area, this is in the exurbs. Ended up at a chain steak place out of pure desperation and still waited for 30+ mins to get a table.
Tonight had a reservation I made two weeks ago to take the girls to Valentine’s dinner at a local but fairly large Italian place. Couldn’t find parking, line out the door on a chilly night for the walk ups waiting for a table. We left at 9 and every table was still full and walk ups were still waiting in the lobby to get in. Every place we drove past was completely full.
No, everything isn’t perfect, but you’d think we are in the midst of the Great Depression from the posts some people make here. I travel at least 3 days a week for work all over the country and everywhere I go the restaurants/bars are busy and lively.
To end with a Murphism:
If people can’t afford steak and booze, these places wouldn’t be slammed.
If these places weren’t slammed, the price of steak and booze wouldn’t be so high.
