Yes, subject to tariffs put on by the orange clown. lol

Grocery expert Phil Lempert, known as the “Supermarket Guru,” said price increases that slammed consumers beginning in mid-2022 are mostly not going away. Climate change is affecting crops and cattle; tariffs are hitting imports and messing up farming forecasts; and immigration enforcement is impacting labor, Lempert said. And the large publicly owned food and consumer product companies are under pressure to deliver growth for their stockholders.

“It puts the consumer in a really difficult position because there’s not a lot we can do,” Lempert said.

With the number of people who lie before Congress on behalf of this administration who knows what numbers we can believe these days.

There seems to be plenty of skepticism of the job numbers, especially given the big downward revision for 2025.

We may be entering Stalin Territory when it comes to government statistics.

I don't know. I remember going to school with a piece of bread in a brown paper bag because my mom couldn't, or didn't want to buy hot lunch tickets.

I made sure to fold the bread so it looked like a real sandwich lol

Yeah, it was a hell of a way to live. But that was my normal. It sucked.

That’s awful. My parents were divorced and we didn’t always have money either. I remember when I once “spent my mom’s last two dollars” on Binaca Blast. She was not happy. I remember her mocking me “Here’s your steak (pretends to “shoot” steak into her mouth), here’s your salad (pretends to shoot salad into her mouth)!

Well, Mr Lempert, crops are dirt cheap because we have too many of them, so I’m not sure we can blame that on the climate. Some of beef shortage can be blamed on drought; this is cyclical as we raise a lot of cattle in places it gets dry. The high beef demand has influenced ranchers and growers to send heifers to market rather than hold them back to breed and expand their herds thus the smallest herd size since the 1950s. The labor issue hasn’t come to fruition the way anyone who was worried about it said it might. Basically he kinda sounds like a guy who fronts for Big Food.

Walmart lowered prices on over half the stuff because they’re price driven. The other stores didn’t because they’re service/brand driven.

Going to guess the rents are lower in Skokie, where the Walmart is, compared to Chicago
