From the ESPN article:
Quote
Potential candidates to replace Smith include Buffalo's Lance Leipold, Army's Jeff Monken, Kent State's Sean Lewis, New York Giants assistant Bret Bielema (a former head coach at Wisconsin and Arkansas), Nevada's Jay Norvell, Toledo's Jason Candle, Tulane's Willie Fritz and several coordinators, including Notre Dame defensive coordinator Clark Lea and Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard.
If we fucking hire Bret Bielema I'm taking a sabbatical from football.

2020 Big Ten football schedule: Dates, matchups
Dec. 18
Nebraska at Rutgers | 4 p.m. | Big Ten Network
Purdue at Indiana | 7:30 p.m. | Big Ten Network

Dec. 19
Ohio State vs. Northwestern (Big Ten Championship Game) | 12 p.m. | FOX
Minnesota at Wisconsin | 4 p.m. | Big Ten Nework
Illinois at Penn State | 5:30 p.m. | FS1
Michigan at Iowa | 7 p.m. | ESPN
Michigan State at Maryland | 7:30 p.m. | Big Ten Network

Getting the gofs/Wisco rivalry game in, after being covided, may have been the primary determinant.

Leipold appears to be a good pick. I wonder if Jeff Monken was a candidate.

Gus Malzahn is available.
No thanks.

Shocking. What the hell is he thinking?

"If I get to make the next hire I am hiring Lance Liepold. offensive minded (50.8 ppg), great teacher, smart, midwest ties, and Big Ten ties. If Josh talked to Barry Alvarez he would highly recommend Leipold."

A good run first offense would be nice to see. Jeff Monken would do the same.

Gotta love Michigan drawing Iowa in the +1 game. Hawkeyes have been playing very well since they woke up after sleepwalking through the first 2 games.

At least you can say Whitman won’t settle for mediocrity and isn’t afraid to make decisive decisions. Now he just needs to improve on his hiring of football coaches.

Moeller was/is an idiot.
I hope we don't hire another idiot.
Imo, a run game with defense is the fastest way to get to respectability. I have no illusions of 9-3 or better year in and year out. 6-6 or 7-5 for 3 out of the next 5 years would be a good start.
I'm ok with being a poor man's NU or Wisco for a while.

I was obviously kidding but it seems to me when non-elite programs have some quick hitting success it tends to be done with innovative high flying offenses.

Building a dominant running team is obviously a hallmark of a successful program, but it’s typically a long play since it requires a very talented and experienced O-Line which most rebuilding programs don’t have.

But probably more than anything in CFB we just need to recruit at a much higher level. Or just bulldoze the program and build a great soccer program that rob can be proud of.

I got my Monken names mixed up btw. It’s Jeff, the Army coach, not Todd that would be a possibility .

Moeller did get followed by White tho, who had a great pass offense to watch from the upper deck.
Whoever wants the job has his work cut out for him, and better bring a different defense. I think talent has been upgraded with some players. Recruits will come with the wins.
