He is gone and his dad  trashed the program on the way out. Reportedly has a 1.8 million deal somewhere.

I have a feeling it's not going to end well for him. Wherever he goes he'll be leaving again.

The one thing that I don't follow with the whole Rez situation is that if someone has been in his ear about shooting, being more than a rebounder etc, then how could he take that to heart with Rodgers redshirting (to get better) on the same bench.

I mean Ty took the year to actually get better at shooting supposedly, what does Rez think the option would be if he is limited and very good at his actual skill set, he would need to drastically get better at mid range/free throws and beyond to be looked at in any other capacity. Not sure a 6'9 guy will do that any quicker or better than a 6'6 athletic guy?

Oh well I was a  huge Rez fan, just don't follow it though.

He's a freshman. He has skills to bring to the table and looks to be a player a coach would want on his team. He'll be better next year.
May cooler heads prevail.

His family thinks he can be a pro 4 and Illinois isn't the way to get there.

This may or may not be a rationalization because he has a bigger NIL offer than what we offer.

I'm guessing he just wants to go somewhere that will hang his retired number right size up in the rafters.

Geez. A lot of handwringing going on.
We will get players.
We will field a team next year.
They will be competitive.
I don't expect this staff to ever get us beyond this tier 2 level of top 25 ish program until we improve the staff doing game planning and system development and whatever the fck is going on with the culture.

But it could be worse and we know what that looks like.

I don't blame Morez for going to Michigan. I  blame the school that chose to sit him behind Ben H for the vast majority of the season. That would take Morez out after shooting 1 mid-range jumpshot.

Dusty May will be good for Morez. Just like he was good for Goldin.

Morez averaged 5.7 fouls per 40 minutes.

Morez and Ben played completely different roles on the team.

He fouled out once all season.

The roles are literally what his family complained about.

At the end of the day we sat and limited a Mr. Basketball and now we'll get to watch him be all-conference at a rival.

Yeah, and Ben gave up 5.7 dunks per 40 minutes.

Morez, despite not shooting 3s, was arguably still more versatile than Ben  b/c he could defend the rim, rebound, and get physical offensively on the block.

Ben just shot 3s( @ a mediocre clip). He was nothing inside. He was a horrid rebounder the majority of the season.

Morez is a low post big. His offensive skill set is setting screens, dunking, and rebounding. Nobody is going to use him as a stretch 4. Plus, foul trouble limited his playing time. Two fouls in the first half, he would sit.

Ben is a stretch four. His job was was to shoot threes. He had some bad games, but 62-181 .343 is not bad.

Mark Smith and Adam Miller were Mr. Basketball. Also Braden Huff and Brock Harding.

You just demonstrated my point. Except that 34% from 3 is not mediocre.

Morez is a low post big and rim runmer. Ben is a stretch 4. They didn't play the same role. No way Morez shoots 180 threes and makes 60+. No way he guards people out on the perimeter.

You might as well say Ben started over Will Riley.

We will see if he turns into all conference. Goldin and Wolf made 2nd team, Queen was 1st team as a freshman, way better offensive game, and rebounds as good or better I would argue. I was a big fan of Rez when he committed, stuck with it and his choice to move on....I will believe it when I see it if his role is anything remotely different than a banger "4" type of player. If it is, then he might be all conference, if he gets the freedom he claims to want, he won't be imo. Best of Luck to him unless he is playing the ILLINI.
