Probably humor here, BUT, the NIL package for ILLINI isn't the issue....we got lots of deep pockets helping and more to come.....
The issue is the "culture" that our staff wants...many don't fit into that culture....maybe some families don't as well.
Fichigan is damn good, very cohesive, some of their pick and roll plays were top shelf....their aggressiveness is what won this game. Now would Rez had been great for us this year sure...he would be the starting but with Mirk, we would be facing the same issue as last year with his family and him saying PT and skill set wasn't being utilized. At the end of the day I think the Johnsons just wanted out and Fichigan was there in the beginning and at the end...
Move on, hope we get better, and hope we don't run into Fichigan any time soon, not sure the outcome will be any different.
Pretty sure Mirk wouldn’t be here if we still had Morez.
It’s kinda funny comparing the stats against the Johnsons’ complaints that he wasn’t being used properly. And needed to be shooting threes.
He played 18 mpg last year as a true freshman on a top 25 team, and his per minute stats aren’t much different than this year. Points a little higher and rebounds a fair amount lower this year.
He has improved his FT% almost 20% and has taken 19 three pointers on the season, or about .67 attempts per game. Maybe Dusty May taught him how to shoot in the off-season but I’m guessing he just got better.
Big reason he wasn’t on the floor more last year was that he couldn’t defend without fouling. Once he got better at that he was getting more minutes and turning the corner. Then he got hurt against MSU on that block attempt where he landed on his chest and missed some games.
I don’t see much that indicates he would have been on much of a different trajectory had he stayed at Illinois.
