If we’ve seen anything the last 4 years it’s that the Democrats will do and have done everything they are suggesting Trump will do when in office. THEY HAVE weaponized the DOJ against a political opponent, but not well enough to keep him from winning. Now they’re scared shitless that he might do it back to them. Isn’t turnabout fair play?!

I'm not sure that's what they're worried about, but it does feed the 'he's a threat to democracy' bit.

As long as you're here. Is a lawyer required to tell a pro bono client who is paying for the legal services if the client doesn't ask who is paying for the services, or if it is truly pro bono work ?

I do not know what the ethics rules are in DC, but if I were in that position I would let the person know who was paying the bill and reassure them that my obligation is towards them, not the person paying the bill. This would all be in writing.

But then again, a shit ton of lawyers who did work in "Trump's orbit" no longer have their law licenses....

Well, I consider "pro bono" stuff as doing it for free as charity (or when forced to represent someone by the federal court). Others may include doing work at lower than usual rates in their definition.  Who pays you is irrelevant to "pro bono."
