no hurricanes though

Maybe a few raindrops, depending on how it tracks. And a breeze. But yeah, I wouldn't expect hurricane damage.

Did you have a discussion with Darnell about how he's responsible for being black and screwing up cities?

You could always retract it.

Nope. Told Darnell my wife has cousins who own a distillery and I'm getting him a bottle for Colin the barkeep to put in his locker

Congratulations!  You’ve supplanted Mn as our window into the "micro-furies" swirling about the right-wing echo chamber.

If lamenting the downfall of once great cities is right wing and pretending it hasn’t been happening because it might entail looking in the mirror is left wing, then yeah you’re right

Nothing lower income taxes,  less regulation, fewer immigrants, less welfare, more police, school choice, high tariffs, and so on won't fix.

What, specifically, am I claiming that you don’t believe to be true? You haven’t been recently, you don’t believe me, you don’t believe third party video footage and eye witness descriptions of what’s happening, and all you do is get mad because I’m pointing it out. These cities aren’t what they were 10 or 20 years ago. Policy has played a significant role in that.

You have chosen to stick your head in the sand and simply say “cities have problems” as if this is normal and not newsworthy, and that’s fine. Actually no, it’s not fine. It’s giving shitty politicians a free pass because they wear your team colors then spending all your time bitching about ancillary issues you don’t like about a guy who isn’t even in power.

So many grievances, so little time.

I've been in the Bay Area 20 years. SF is better than it was 20 years ago. More homeless in tents, *less* open air drug dealing. Petty crime, about the same.

Concert scene, restaurant scene, public event scene - much better.

The only problem is that - housing prices have gone up. A lot. Hint: that only happens if demand to live in a place increases.

Ditto Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento

OK, so we went out in Oakland last week. 23rd and Broadway.
https://www.parcheoak.com/
The restaurant was packed - my buddy was very clear, if you are in, you're in, if you might not be able to make it, you're out. There is a cancellation fee on reservations, because they are always full.

Then we went to the Oakland Whiskey Library
https://oaklandwhiskeylibrary.com/
My buddy used to be a member, but he wasn't using it a lot so we just handed the bartender a 50, we know the guy from various bars in DT Oakland he's worked at before. Had some whiskey with Darnell, I'm sure you would have hated to drink with Darnell because well, he's black, and them blacks are making the cities hellscapes with their whole defund the police blacks lives matter bullshit. Darnell has a private locker there, he availed us of some of his stuff.

We walked by the Fox Theatre AND the Paramount. Picked up some tickets for Modest Mouse in early November, Snow Patrol in March, and we're on the fence about Primus on Dec 31.

Now... my buddy was also very clear. Absolutely nothing left in the car - it might get broken into.

Well yes, you have to make some adjustments if you live in the city to take advantage of all they have to offer. Or you can live in the boondocks and eat at Olive Garden and Joe's Cover Band at the Pizza Hut.

Either choice is fine. Some people like Olive Garden. it's a free country. You don't like the City - don't live in the City.

Oakland is a FUCKING SHITHOLE

Visited a friend who lives very close to that parch oak joint you were talking about (at the broadway apartments), and holy fucking hell, its the Detroit of California and that's putting it nicely

I was flabbergasted that he was paying $4400 a month to live in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment in that cesspool

my god man

Oakland is a FUCKING SHITHOLE

Dude you live in Reno.

It's not just a running meme, I've spent a lot of time in Reno, during the blackjack team, when I'd be working on the house, if I was going up and the house was rented.

That downtown area near the Cal-Neva was sketchier than 16th/Mission in SF at it's worst in '96. For some reason we had gone to the Rail City Casino in Sparks, there was word of an exploitable video poker promo or something, we quickly decided that if we played for any reasonable stakes, we'd get rolled before we could get back to the car, and we hightailed it out of there. We pretty much decided - if you have your bankroll with you, valet park at Silver Legacy, Peppermill, Atlantis, or Ascuaga's Nugget, and stick with the plan. We went up for a bowling tourney and the league had got us rooms at some place that appears to no longer exist, The Sands or something like that. I checked in, checked out, went to the Legacy and got a room, the place was full of random homeless dudes who had panhandled a few bucks and were playing penny slots trying to angle a free beer.

Now - last time I was up there, after waiting for like 90 minutes to get a rental car at the Reno Airport while some fellas who whose mental card decks were missing all the aces and face cards and whose mouths were missing several teeth tried to figure out that the Black Chevy Surbuban was for me, I did stop to get a few things at 580 and the Mt Rose Highway. There's a lot of new development there (full disclosure, I hadn't been up there for a while and had no idea they had built 580). I'm not much for McMansions, but it's a pretty nice area, clearly.

Oakland is many times the size of Reno/Sparks. Houses in the Oakland Hills go for many millions, Piedmont, Rockridge, those are very wealthy areas. Downtown is a definitely a jumble, but there's a lot to do, you just need to know how to navigate it. Just like Reno occasionally has some good concerts at the resorts. Sure there are some areas out on MLK that are alsmost as bad as the rougher areas of Sparks.

I went to a nice restaurant downtown, not to the oakland hills country club.

I also have to laugh a bit, remember I go to Osage Beach Missouri every year, definitely not a "city", in a "non-blue state"
The funny thing about the show "Ozark" is that it undersells how much crazy stuff goes on around there. Whatever you want to say about the Bay Area, at least we don't put strip clubs across the street from Middle Schools. But you go to Margaritaville, and it's a nice resort with expensive boats, there are million dollar houses on the lake, etc... it's just the gardener is on meth.

Oakland Hills Country Club is in Michigan lol
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.
