Well, we might have us some shooting this year. If we can hit even remotely like this against good teams, we can go really far.

The freshmen looked good too. Miller can shoot the lights out, Curbelo is really creative, and Hawkins looked like he can do a lot of things.

I know NC A&T is a shit opponent, but damn this team looks to be something special. If Miller can be consistent on those 3 threes, and Frazier can find his stroke - no one will be able to defend us. I have not been this excited about Illinois hoops in LONG time.

People keep forgetting DMW hit threes at a really solid clip down the stretch last year. Teams can’t afford to leave him open anymore.

Now with a couple of high level shooters on the wing and Ayo likely to improve, this team is not only really balanced, but very very deep outside of the true 5. And experienced.

The lack of depth at the 5 concerns me. When Kofi has to come out and the other team has a center with offensive post moves, we will body the opposing big man and double immediately with (DMW or Trent) to tie up/take the ball. That will eventually hurt us against teams that shoot the 3 well. And/or teams with great centers with lots of white guys on the perimeter, such as Iowa.

Another Achilles’ Heel I see is our annual nemesis of “Miniature Size Guard Destroys Illini.” We have a lot of length and strength in our front court. That makes our front court a very difficult matchup for most opponents. It also makes us vulnerable to one of those 5’ 7” guys that can slice and dice the defense off the dribble. Trent and Kofi are the keys here. Really gonna miss Feliz at times.

Just hope a reasonable season can play out because I think this team is special.

I think Trent Frazier is broken.

Trent relinquished his primary scoring role to become a distributor, floor general, lock down defender, and bad motherfucker.

I love that he is a great teammate and has absolutely no ego. Great quality.

I didn’t. I like DMW a lot better as a 3-D guy than just a D guy.

Depth at the 4 is definitely our biggest concern, but I don’t think it will hurt us against that many teams. And if Hawkins can give us even a few decent minutes there, that would help.
