They have to try to appeal to people in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. That's it.

With a National Popular vote, the candidates could go stump in Oregon, or Florida, or any of the 50 states, because everyone of those states, and every county in every one of those states, has persuadable voters, from a far larger set of backgrounds and living circumstances than those six states.

That's patently untrue

A true conservative. Water down a good idea because "scary"

I am sure you know originally each state had one vote. The concept is that sovereign states choose the President.

Two at large electors with the rest determined by population was a compromise. The same with Congress. Two Senators and Representatives determined by population. I see a pattern.

Winner takes all distorted the Electoral College.

Same with primaries. Dems went to a form of proportional voting. Hillary won 55% of the popular vote, but it was still a close race.

Republicans used winner takes all. Trump won 45% of the popular vote, but won in a landslide.

See 2020 election.

I said "They have to try to appeal to people in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. That's it."

No other state was close. *maybe* North Carolina if we are being charitable.

The only reason candidates come to California or New York is to raise funds from super wealthy donors. Happens here all the time "Today's ride through Portola Valley is moved from 10 AM to 8 AM due to (Trump/Biden/Harris) fundraiser somewhere on Los Trancos, roads will be shut down in the area from 11-2".

There *are* say, Trump field offices with a skeleton staff in places like Bakersfield, but they exist solely to try to get a bit of fundraising, sell swag, etc... Jobu himself says "his vote doesn't matter" - if you are in Bakersfield, which is a red district (Kevin McCarthy was the congressman) - it really doesn't matter if you vote. But if we had a National Popular Vote, maybe Trump holds a rally in Bakersfield because they expect they can win 70/30 there, and they want to juice turnout, because those votes are thrown into the big soup.

See 2020 election.

Biden won 57 (by my quick count) electoral votes in those states by relatively thin margins. Without them, he loses.

JFC. I’ve been complaining about the system being corrupt for 30 years, not 3 months.

Wait, we were told it wasn’t when Trump had an issue…

Weird.
Because FOX News told me so…

JFC. I’m talking about money (billionaires, corporations) influencing elections, not “voter fraud.”

Weird.

It certainly was not an issue when the CTU bought the mayor position and a couple of alderman slots for the SDA candidates. Did not hear him complaining then. How is that working out?

You want Unions to unilaterally disarm?

Politics is (are?) a dirty hard ball game. It takes a lot of money to fight back against a lot of money.
