I gave up on Underwood when they lost to Houston in the 2nd round of the tourney a few years ago when Houston's two best players were out.

Underwood is a good recruiter and can regularly make the tourney, but he lacks the temperament to be big game coach.

He did well to get us out of the basketball purgatory Weber and Groce put us in. I'll be forever thankful to him for that even if he isn't the guy to lead us to the promised land in the end.

Ayo and Kofi were great recruits and Shannon was a great transfer pick-up. 

I suspect Morez Johnson and whomever he gets via the transfer portal will get them into the tourney next year, but I don't expect Illinois to make a deep tourney run with Underwood.

Will be interesting to see what happens over summer. We will have only one guy who has played starter minutes returning and he is a small forward who can't shoot anything but a layup. Will need to bring in 5 or 6 guys capable of being starters or in rotation.
