Can't recall the last time a team won it all by just playing offense with no defense. Not in college not in the NBA. Sure the Warriors had some years with a new style of offense that had teams on their heels, but they also had guys playing legit defense like Draymond, Iguodala, etc.

We're destined to lose early in the tournament unless that changes. I'll stick to my earlier post that were breaking our sweet sixteen drought this year. But that's about it.

I think any team with a lead guard(s) who can penetrate and score or kick, any decent big who can score inside, and a wing or two who can shoot the three ball a little bit can beat us on any given night.
Bonus points if they can run and jump trap our ballhandlers or post and recover, and god help us if they have a team of aggressive quick on ball D guys.
Imagine us vs Houston or Iowa State or Auburn.

I just don't think we have the quickness to stay in front of people or make them uncomfortable feeding the post or running their sets. We are the Washington Generals on D right now.
We were moving and working much harder on positioning and pack line earlier on. Once we started clicking on offense we have been fucking the dog.
It seems like an effort and intensity thing. But we just are not very quick.
We are near last in country in forcing TOs.

I remember last year when we would talk about the next opposing guard who would have a career night against our shit Olé drop coverage trying to make teams shoot "tough twos".
We were doing better this year in first half. In freefall since.

This year it is picking the guards who can get to the tin at will on us and create havoc.

I know it has been said by a few guys here, but 10-12 mpg of Sincere Harris would be good right now.
He could dog the point guard, disrupt a little bit, and bring some intensity.

Not sure it would matter much, since Underwood switches everything and teams attack Goode and Domask...

DGL seems to have some of that intensity. When Kern was scoring at will, Underwood could have looked at DGL and told him to get in the game and dog the shit out of Kern.
But Underwood appears to have no interest in disrupting the other team's tempo, while he watches the coach on the other bench do it.

I still have faith that we can get a 4 or 5 seed in the only tournament that matters.
The Big10 tourney.

Was banned over there during the Weber years.

These next 5 games will be the toughest stretch of Illinois remaining schedule.   Iowa, Minnesota, @Wisconsin, Purdue, @Iowa.  I'd be shocked, but happy if we win 3 of them.

Up 8 with 2 minutes to go. Goode misses from 3 in the corner, with 22 seconds left on the shot clock.
The announcer, having no idea how right he might prove to be: you wonder if that might have ended the game.
Underwood: Luke missed an open 3 from the corner.

HQ2 : run clock 😂

It's hilarious when people say we have to keep underachiever because of recruits coming in, not like they wont leave after first year

Just read on Google News a story from Champaign Room concerning last night's debacle and pretty much the problems of the last 6-8 games. Bad coaching, lack of fundamentals, lack of killer instinct. And why does BU have his son sitting there with him and not Frazier, who actually played Big10 basketball pointing things out?
Too many non-conference games against weak opponents (EIU, WIU, Valparaiso, Colgate, Oakland) will make your defensive efficiency look good.

I do wonder what role Frazier has. This defense has none of his character.

I do have to say that just a couple days ago this board was nuthugging Underwood pretty heavily.

Now his competency is being questioned.
