No. That’s a complete exaggeration. You were literally crediting Justin with 2 INTs (both Hail Marys) and two more “almost interceptions” against Cleveland.
You’re the one who wants to cite a few extra drops as “quarterback victimization” (paraphrasing because I can’t remember the exact words you used but that is close enough). And you’re the one who wants to say that comparing Fields’ situation to Mahomes’ is “pretty fair.”
Mahomes has a top 5 all-time coach. Had the best receiving TE in NFL history his entire career (and Hill a first ballot HOF for most). He’s got multiple All-Pros on his OLine. Their receivers are not exceptional, but depth wise are still better than the Bears (and better coached).
Fields had a bottom 5 overmatched novice as his coach, a bottom half OLine (which is “much” improved over last year), and a bad receiving corps past DJ Moore. Last years’ WR corps was a complete disgrace to NFL history.
But yet, you expect a 2nd and 3rd year QB to “overcome” all of that. And to some degree he has, otherwise he’d be Zach Wilson, which he’s not.
I mean, make up and argue against whatever you'd like - lord knows its literally all you have. The
only reason anyone has pointed out the balls that hit defenders in the hands and weren't INTs is because you insist on giving Fields credit when his WRs and TEs (even backups) drop balls - something that no other QB in the league gets the benefit of. I'm fine with counting drops - as long as you count them for everyone in the league, and count terrible throws that hit defenders in the hands too. That's how the PFF grades work, and you know what they said about Fields? That when you add all that up, he's... a mediocre quarterback.
You demand that ONLY the 'hypotheticals' that benefit Fields count. The ones that don't benefit Fields, or that do benefit other QBs - you mock those and put a line about it in your signature and say "AMIRITE" like a seven year old.
I actually think its
totally fucking nuts to compare Fields to Mahomes but you insist on doing it for some unknown reason. You've been ranting all year about how Mahomes hasn't been that good - and then he just played what would've been a top-5 game in Fields' career to go to his 6th straight AFC championship game. You don't accept that his WRs had the highest drop rate in the league as an excuse, or that his OC is literally one of the last guys you blamed for Fields' performance - those excuses are
only valid for Fields.
If they trade down and pick another pass catcher or two in the top-10 of the draft, the excuses are over. There cannot be one single excuse for Justin Fields next season if they need to spend big draft capital because he needs the best pass catching group in the league to expect him to be an average or better quarterback. I don't care that it's a new system and new OC, I don't care that MHJ or Bowers or Odunze is a rookie, or that they have x number of new guys on the team, or that offensive linemen missed time in camp. The excuses have to end.
