Mostly true, I guess. I don’t remember you clowning MT. I did and I was pretty sure you were among the crowd chastising me for it. Maybe I’m wrong. But when it comes to us here at the outcast post, you and JJ would be the first two people I would expect to see coddling the nuts of the DIA or a coach.

And you’d be the first to exhibit remorse for your white privilege. STFU…

Watch the football game or something, man. The world doesn’t revolve around Fields and shit.
Because FOX News told me so…

Whitman gets a pass, BU gets a pass...both have done more for the ILLINI than anyone since arguably Henson.

Laughable take.

Whitman hired Lovie Smith. A 5 year death penalty.

Underwood has worse results than Weber in an era where you can legally pay players.

Just stop.

How about you go back to the homeless shelter and STFU. You lost your bet. Grow the fuck up and leave and act like a human being for once in your life.

I missed the part where Underwood had the benefit of having kids recruited by Bill Self on his roster the day he stepped foot on campus.

Doesn’t matter.  Weber had more success at K State, than Underwood has had at Illinois

MT won me over at first by shitcanning Weber. Then the wheels came off pretty quickly during the bumblefuck search for his replacement. My first time meeting him was not a great impression either. And we don’t even need to go into Becktard.

As a fan, I do appreciate the air of legitimacy Whitman has brought to Illinois athletics. It’s been fun being relevant again in the revenue sports. We are still doing well in other sports. I’ve obviously shown myself to be exceptionally critical when it’s warranted so I’m not sure why I’m getting labeled as a coddler.

I did catch a lot of shit for my supposed defense of Groce. I never thought he was getting the job done.

People always said, “He’s a great recruiter, just can’t coach.”

My take was the opposite. His coaching schemes were fine. He ran a modern offense and a fairly standard pack line defense. The biggest coaching issue he had was green lighting a bunch of bad shooters.

His actual problem was that he couldn’t ever get the talent he needed to compete in the upper 1/3 of the B1G. Specifically at the PG position, which his offense desperately needed to function. Poor Malcolm Hill (an NBA wing) got stuck playing the 4 for most of his time here because we couldn’t attract quality bigs. There were also a bunch of behavioral issues.

Whitman hiring Lovie Smith was a grab at trying to get a known name to an unknown (ILLINOIS football program) IMO. The program was/and has for the most part always been mired in at best below average talent/play overall...gotta try to hit homerun, it usually ends up being a pop fly, which is what Lovie ended up being for us.

Lovie didn’t do what we wanted him to do, but hiring him did jump start donations and the facility improvement and he did recruit most of the players Dom’s boy Bert had a good season with. And he restored a little dignity to the program coming off the self imposed sanctions of the Becktard era.

Agreed we got the off the field benefits, hence the name grab, on the field not so much.

I think that’s mostly what he was hired to do. Anyone who thought 9 wins a year was coming was kidding themselves.

I do. I think it’s awful that the color of your skin grants you more privilege, but hey, that’s just me I guess.

Well, and the biggest reason he was hired was to check the box on a minority hire for football or basketball. He knew he could swing and miss at least once on football, plus it allowed him to not be constricted for the sport that really counts for us—basketball. One of the two hires HAD be a minority.

Brad Underwood as our coach we should/and most are/ be very happy overall. Think about this for a second:

7 years in and we have a bonafide national relevant program.
7 years in and we have multiple top ranked classes with incoming HS and above avg to outstanding transfers.
7 years in and we have a coach who had displayed a stubborn mentality to not change, play his way, learn his way, play only older guys, or else.
7 years in and we NOW have a coach who is more even keeled, has learned to play/coach other ways/has a demeanor that is more well liked overall and one that the players seem to respond to better.

He still has the fire, he has the drive to make our ILLINI great, but a willingness to change and adapt to be better....that is growth and ability to adapt.

We could have this, and many were asking for it by the way at one time, I am one that is glad we have BU, not the alternative for our program.
