It was a tipped Hail Mary and some fans are so dug in on Fields they’re hammering Mooney for not making a miraculous play falling backwards.

He made a hell of a play to even be in the position shown in that image (he is falling backwards and reacting to a tipped ball but still uses his hands to keep it off the ground), but must protect Fields at all costs.

For all the talk about how terrible Mooney is, he was a 1000 yard guy with a rookie Fields and the corpse of Andy Dalton throwing to him.  He isn’t great by any stretch but he isn’t unplayably terrible either.  That narrative wouldn’t exist if they weren’t in full cultist mode.

Lol @ “miraculous”
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

He seems to have regressed.

He can be on your team. I wouldn’t count on him to be a difference making player. It’s not the first time he choked at the goal line to win a game. That would have been a pretty incredible play, but the difficulty of the catch wasn’t great. He literally had his forearms under it. DK Metcalf makes that catch 99 out of 100 times.

Absolutely.

@nfl

Here's the video.  He's falling backwards off balance, reaches out with one hand (otherwise it hits the ground incomplete) and almost makes the play.  You're hammering him as if this is an easy play.  It's absolute lunacy, obviously, but like 80% of what you post here to defend Fields is absolute lunacy at this point.

Mooney almost made a hell of a play, but couldn't hold on.  Not sure what to say about anyone pretending otherwise; they either can't see, or they're not being very honest about the play for SOME reason...

No one on Earth or in NFL history catches that ball 99/100 times.

It was catchable, but it'd have been a hell of a play for literally anyone.

To even be in the position to "have his forearms under it", Mooney made an amazing play off balance falling on his back to reach out an arm and keep it off the turf.  Pretty clear in the video that he made a hell of a play to even be in a position to potentially hang on.

Needs too many breaks. Maybe he and Sweat can team up.

If any other Bears quarterback throws that pass you’d be bashing Mooney relentlessly. You’re fooling no one. Well maybe your lackeys here. But that’s it.

Amazing play to bobble it and kick it to the defender when he had it 80% corralled! Amazing play! JFC you don’t see how ridiculous you sound right now?

Anyone who bashes a QB (any QB) for a Hail Mary incompletion or INT is being exactly as stupid as the people bashing Mooney for not making a miracle play falling onto his back.  No more, no less.

They call it a Hail Mary for a reason.

If you want to say “that’s not an easy catch,” fuck, I’ll give that to you. But spare me the “Amazing play just to be in position!” Good Lord.
