Harmon and Rodgers are WAY higher floor players right now than DGL. Guys can be aggressive without being reckless. I haven’t seen much from the kid to make me think he needs a bunch more minutes. Guessing there are attitude issues if he can’t get on the floor much for comfortable wins. Surprised Hansberry didn’t play today. What’s the deal there?

Hansberry has been kind of a garbage minute guy. This game was never enough of a blow out I guess.
9 or 10 point game in last four minutes.

As for DGL bring behind Rodgers and Harmon it says a lot. Neither of them are more than you have to have another basic ball handler out there who will hopefully not hurt you.
DGL as noted can make poor decisions on offense and he gets lost on D more than normal.
We don't have a good solution.

Rodgers and Harmon play D. Harmon can knock down open 3s. DGL is a matador on D and out of control on the other end. As we’ve all said before we could really use his speed and ability on the offensive end but man you can’t be a big liability out there on both ends of the floor more often than not.

That said, I would have given him some minutes in the second half when we were up 20 to try and settle in.

Agree he should have gotten more minutes for a lot of reasons. Harmon is no Curry. He has made 5 threes all year, but at least he will shoot them. Rodgers has now scored 12 points in the last four games.
Neither should really be out there that much but they are all we have and they not killing us which is all we can hope for. We do not beat FAU without Harmon’s 10 points.

At this point they just have to go with it and hope for the best and we are past the point of getting DGL ready for the BT. He will be a non factor this year it appears unless something changes the trajectory this is on.

The Sleepers guys had some good thoughts on the game, the roster, and especially DGL. Just watched it.

I agree with them on our roster generally. Right now DGL doesn't give you anything not already on the floor but I'd agree he should've gotten more playing time today. But if Moretti is back healthy for B1G season I feel like he almost has a better chance to play meaningful minutes as the backup rotation guard than DGL.

I would project us 2-4 in the B1G. There's too many 8-10 seeds in the conference not to have one or two inexplicably finish higher than they should.

yeah I guess, just figured we'd see DGL more in the non conference cupcake games so we know what we have without risking much

Never saw these guys before. How do they have a show? LOL. It's like a couple of Loyalty board homers.
I think that because the BT is relatively weak again that we should easily go 12-8 and as high as 14-6 which would keep us solidly in
4 or 5 seed territory. Beat Purdue and win 15 games we might be a 3 seed. Would require going 5-5 on the road which is pretty hard in any year but there are a lot of pretty inconsistent teams.
It is doable.

This team will have a solid chance at the second weekend. They will be playing a 3/4/5/6 (no great teams and all beatable) to do so. I do not think we will fall to a 7 seed as weak as the BT is and have to play a 2.
Calling Illinois a great team is crazy.
Claiming UW should be coach of the year is a stretch at this point.
People expected us to be in Top tier of BT with the returnees and portal guys in a soft BT.
We needed one of the Marquette or Tennessee games (both who Purdue beat) to be in that conversation.
Purdue has four Top 10 wins and likely POY.
We have none.

If we win the BT regular season then that award is warranted.
Not out of the question. Purdue will still have guard ballhandling and shooting issues IMO, but it looks like Smith has made a major jump and the Jones kid helps a lot
in terms of athleticism.

We should improve on offense, however, as Domask and Guerrier and Hawkins revert to their mean. I really like that Hawkins did not take some bonehead early shot clock threes
that he would have taken last year and he had some more shots in the paint. He will never be an efficient or likely a 13/14 ppg scorer but he can be a 10 ppg guy for sure.

The thing that I do agree with is our defense as a unit is becoming pretty solid. Yeah we gave up 86 and 89 vs FAU and Tenn but they had to work for it. I think in the BT in halfcourt slugfests we will keep most teams in the 60's.
It is not flashy like last year with the focus on blocks but we then had constant breakdowns and
the drop coverage and help rotations were abysmal.
Much more solid this year likely due to having four guys starting who are all seniors or older who play better position defense.
TSj has been much improved on and off ball. We are not blocking shots or producing TOs but we are simply staying or getting in front of people better.

I don’t disagree with your assessment but they aren’t Illinois guys. I think they spun off from Field of 68? The white dude (Greg?) is a Michigan fan who coined the “Daddy Brad” nickname because Underwood has owned Juwan. Their stuff has been popping up on my YouTube feed when I watch Illini highlights.

Agree. The BT is shaping up as a league where a lot of teams will not be great but will be tough outs at home. It used to be the formula was win all or most all of your home games but the stats were always league on average won only 33% of road games. The crowds the scouting, and the physical beatings allowed made a road win against any decent teams hard. The top teams would do better than that. But we have seen PU already lose on the road.

Illinois, NU, Wisky,OSU, MSU, Nebraska, Indiana, and of course Purdue on road will all be tough for opposing teams. MD could come around also. Even Iowa can be a problem if they get things sorted out.
I think we can go 4-6 or maybe 5-5. 6-4 would be excellent and give us a shot at title. Need to go 9-1 or ideally 10-0 at home. Nothing will be easy as we are not a really good offensive team yet.

Got it. They are very high on Illinois for sure. We find consistent scoring we can be very good.
This non flashy defense reminds me of the COVID year team defense later in year after they stopped fouling and trying for TOs and went packline.

Harmon has helped but as stated in the past I do not think overall he is B1G caliber, we got what we got there.

DGL, I would guess does have some attitude issues, typical of a HS kid (I am greater than I am mentality), lets see if he stays put after this year. I thought he had the athletic ability and scoring ability to be our PG by B1G conference play ( I was wrong). He now seems to be almost a carbon copy of Curbelo, but with more athletic ability, just not the type that helps us right now.

curbelo had a good freshman year and liked to pass the ball

dgl is doing the opposite
