The Bears have soooo many problems that the quarterback on a rookie deal is wayyyyy down the list of things that need fixed immediately. It’s a clown show of epic proportions.
I don’t even know where you start to fix this because the people making all the big decisions are the ones that really need to be replaced. But in the meantime I do know that good line play, adequate play calling and a couple of skill players can make average QBs look pretty good, and bad line play and play calling can make great QBs look terrible.
Finding stud franchise QBs is like finding a needle in a haystack, so it makes sense to me to hang onto a guy with considerable physical talent that you don’t have to pay a fortune for and give him a chance to be successful than keep plugging in new potentially expensive QBs into a bad offense.
Blaming the QB for the Bears’ troubles is like blaming the president for gas prices.
I find the majority of that agreeable. The Bears have lots of problems. Fields' inconsistency is only one of them.
Having said that, if Fields hadn't gotten hurt against Minnesota and finds a way to win that game, everyone would have been talking about growth in his development. He threw a whole 10 passes in that game (completed 6 with a pick, can't even remember if it was his fault tbh), but 10 mostly uneventful passes and an injury basically made everyone forget possibly the only back to back 125+ passer rating games we've seen from a Bears quarterback. And they forget he's already proven himself one of the best running QBs ever, if not the best. Lamar never ran the ball as explosively.
