I hope Butler is a stud here but man I don’t want all my eggs in the “three star true frosh combo guard with no other high major offers is our PG next year” basket because that’s shades of Chester Frazier and Jaylon Tate and yikes

Rating and offers is about where the resemblance ends. Although I would take another Chester.

Everything I have seen says Butler is complete point guard. Kind of a bigger Jalen Brunson. Gets called a combo because he has the size and shot to play off the ball. Plus the handle, passing, vision to play point. Can get to rim and kick, dish, or finish with with hand through contact.

Maybe overlooked in part because he is more of  a skilled basketball player than an above the rim athlete?

Lack of exposure?

A Chester recruit.

Epps might be the focus of the D, but he is also the focus of the O. Cooley can coach and is getting him good looks against lesser competition. He's not taking 20 shots at UI and he isn't a point guard.

No he is not a point guard. He does avg 5 assists a game along with 4 TOs. Kind of Ayo like who was also never a PG.
No he would not get 20 shots a game at Illinois. For the record he gets 13 a game at Georgetown. Shannon gets 12.
Yes, Cooley and just about anybody else is a better offensive coach than UW and our staff.
Yes, he probably still plays halfass defense.
And No, Rodgers is not a point guard.

It would be nice to have another consistent scoring threat to go with TSJ since we run an alleged positionless offense.
I think the overall net value to the team would be higher than Rodgers assuming Epps and UW could co-exist.

But it doesn't matter - he is not here.

He is a 3 star #163 recruit.Generally players play to their rankings. Guards are usually easier to assess and project.
Nobody goes under the radar much these days.
I hope he is an outlier and does well here.

Funny enough he was exactly the type of guy John Groce wanted but could never get

Something else allegedly happened with Epps here too. Insiders say it was personal, off court, not basketball related. They refuse to say what or even hint.

Then there was the tweet by Matt Mayer.

Epps parents rushed out here.

He was shooting well last year, then he wasn't.

I hope bringing that up is ok with PA man.

Cooley is a good coach, Epps is closer to home, and things are looking up for him. Some at TOS like to cite his current success st GT as evidence our staff sucks.

It takes 4 years to build off of 1 seeds and January bowl games.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

It takes years of rapport, credibility, insider knowledge to get to that level on Loyalty. It then allows you to make such grand statements and Illini fans worldwide must listen. It surely can't be wrong. It's Loyalty.
