Melendez, the one dude who went to LSU and broke something, the other Puerto Rican guy who went to St Johns and sucked and left again.

Seems a recurring theme with guys who left that thought they should have been better even though they were given a lot of PT here and had some success here.

Pods is different since he wasn't given an opportunity here, that's a mistake unlike the three above.

Melendez showed some flashes as a frosh. Was playing injured as soph for us and lost confidence and couldn't shoot. Team culture was a total fucking mess which didn't help.  Looks like he is in a bad head place again.
Miller had bad advice from his family which thought he was a one and done talent. Was decent at times for sure as a freshmen. Had injury year. Was streaky as fuck at LSU and either hot or cold- mostly cold. Now his eligibility for another transfer is in dispute at ASU.
He might turn out to be pretty good.

Curbelo is a just a pretty fucked up talented kid. Was out of control except for about a month his freshmen year in second half. Then he looked like a future star at times.
Got hurt and was messed up for weeks. Rumors about off court issues, drug use, and attitude issues. Also now on second transfer at Southern Miss and not allowed to play yet.
When he is good he is special but that was always rare.

Epps is the guy that I wished we could have worked through whatever the fuck was going on. Had obvious natural scoring ability. Was in middle of total shitshow last year and I am sure both he and UW were both at fault for the bad relationship.
Was apparently pretty defiant but UW can be and was a fucking ass.

Oh, and the Podz thing...... this staff........

I am pretty sure there is plenty of fodder for serious negative recruiting and it had an impact on the total whiff this summer.

Put a more mature bought in Epps on this team who plays a little defense and we are in very good shape.

I read something here or on TOS about Matt Mayer publicly commenting on Epps being hospitalized and not sure if he’d be okay? Apparently it was memory holed and never talked about again. Anyone know what I’m talking about? I was super excited about him coming in…not sure what happened but he really struggled down the stretch last year. Couldn’t hit water from a boat. But that’s often times the case with freshmen hitting the wall playing big minutes in the B1G grind. But something definitely happened and it didn’t seem like he and UW were on the same page.

Melendez just lost whatever mojo he played with his freshman year and wasn’t even close to the same guy again. Who knows what happened there?

I’m pretty much in the same camp as Spark is on the Podz situation. He didn’t play much on a B1G championship team as a frosh behind some super seniors. The staff wanted him to come back, but they’d recruited some pretty solid guards so he decided to move on to a place he could be The Guy. He put a ton of work in, and the rest is history. He wouldn’t have helped us much but for one year maybe anyways.

Most of the guys that have left or been run off haven’t done much elsewhere. The whiff on PG this offseason was colossal and will certainly be this team’s limiting factor. We are going to have to kill it in the portal after this season to remain competitive.

Dainja, Hansberry, Goode, Harris, Rodgers, Gibbs-Lawhorn, and Moretti could all be back next year. They'll add Johnson, Jackstys, and Butler.

I agree with Custard that we will have to really hit the portal again.

A familiar chorus for sure.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

Lol. Loyalty is so completely full of shit.
I do hope we get things in track.

We will see what Hawkins and Domask show up and if we can execute in end game.

It was a pretty good win even with the weird rules. Kansas is really good.
But CH has not shown up since and Domask has been really passive.

Those two guys have to play well to beat any good teams.
We can overcome the just a guy thing at PG if the other four slots and Dainja and Goode contribute.

I agree with hit, not sure about really. Pretty much everyone is hitting the portal.

Bigs: Dainja, Johnson, Hansberry, Jackstys.

Wings: Goode, Rodgers, Harris

Guards: DGL, Moretti, Butler

Assuming no attrition, the most obvious needs would be another wing, and a serviceable point guard. Another big for depth?

Is that Dan guy really going to allow you to pontificate about Moretti like you can here?

I feel like posting this roster just serves to highlight why we’ll need to be very reliant on the portal. Tons of question marks and guys with significant limitations. Almost no star power aside from Johnson and probably not as a freshman. DGL maybe? Anyways if I am a high level transfer player I’m not looking at this roster and having concerns about playing time, I’ll put it that way.

Some decent pieces but nowhere near where the personnel needs to be to maintain or improve on what we’ve seen the past 4 seasons. Need to have better prep classes than 15th-30th and some of those guys need to stick around and pan out. Granted we could have taken a 6 man class like Purdue did this year and inflate our rankings but that’s not ideal either.

Like the mix of preps and transfers as a concept if you can reliably blend personalities and manage the turnover and related chemistry issues.
