Your point is “no one wins without good players.” What a fucking brilliant point. A totally useless comment we’ve spent way too much time debating.

My point is that it's stupid to try to separate a coach's results from its roster, as if a 'bad roster' or 'good roster' affects the evaluation of the coach, rather than wins and losses.  I've stated it clearly many many times.

It’s not hard when it’s a one-off like Nagy. It’s totally doable. I mean, the Beatles had a lot of hits, but didn’t the Bay City Rollers really crush it for a short while?

You’re basically making the argument that only wins and losses matter, even in a very short window. For a couple of years, Mike Ditka was on Belichick’s level as a coach, amirite?

The notion that it’s impossible to separate a coach from his win/loss record (in a short window) is preposterous. We all saw that Mike Ditka (among others) wasn’t that great of a coach once he no longer had overwhelming talent.

Now if a guy like Belichick or Bill Cowher has a long record of winning, of course. You can’t separate them
from their records.

Who remembers when Barry Switzer was a great NFL coach?

He’s right though; regarding the Mack trade, I was AOTC.

Nah man, he made the playoffs his first year in Philly (but got bounced first round though). Which means he was a terrific NFL coach. It was kinda reminiscent of Belichick. For like a year or so.

Why would anyone continue discussing this when you when you talk past them, misrepresent (or, I suppose, misunderstand) what they're saying, etc.?  You're not capable of discussing this in good faith.

If it's about demanding your 'credit' for being 'AOTC', then sure - have it.  Congrats, you were ahead of the curve as usual.

I think I’ve made it pretty clear that mediocre or worse coaches sometimes have good seasons, so yes, you CAN separate a coach from
his record. In a short window. If a coach has a consistent record of winning, yes, that would be a case where it’s stupid to separate him from his record. If Barry Switzer can win a Super Bowl, bad coaches can have a good year or two.

Ditka had a great 4-5 year run, but once he no longer had overwhelming talent; he was exposed.
