Someone please alert me when the second game thread starts.
-
Naturally, I applaud the GoEmaw approach:
"Non specific game that is on now thread"

Illinois -4. O/U 151. The 2 times I watched them they lost. Seton Hall and Michigan. The Hall game they choked away, but Hall isn't bad. beat Marquette. Michigan is solid too. Despite losing both Stevens and Wilkins they seem to be a better defensive team. They don't have anything down low to stop Kofi whatsoever.
Need to get Adam going and find a way to win this game. Big Ten seems to be even deeper than last season. We may still be a midpack team until I see otherwise. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Rutgers seem to all be better than us at this point in time. Hopefully Ayo will rub off some of that work ethic on Adam.

Its kind of a must win game thing early.
The problem with getting anyone going in this offense is they do not run any sets or plays.
It's Ayo shoot, or get it to Kofi if he is open.
Everybody else is an afterthought.
When Curbelo is in we have the drive and kick.
There- I scouted Illinois for the league.
-
This is a MUST win
-
They blew the doors off Va Tech at their place and as Sparty already showed us when they got dominated at Evanston, life on the road in conference play ain’t easy.
Penn st plays hard. We better be ready for another fight. Yeah this is at least pretty close to a ‘must win’ for me
-
They have 45 steals after 5 games ? 🤔
If we don't let them pick our pockets, early stats say we may be better shooters and rebounders.
Time to play some half court defense, and get out and run.
-
Kinda need to start better than 5-4 if you want to keep the hype up for Final Four contender and best team in 15 years don’t you? Important game for this early in the season.
-
16-2 PSU. Ouch.
-
Down 13-2 out of the gate. Scratch that 16-2. Alrighty then.
-
This is how we come out?
Come on, Brad. Get this shit corrected.
-
Wtf is happening😳
-
Underwood pulls down his mask to scream at the players. Nice

Great 1st post from Tempo in about 2 months. Very fitting. Welcome
-
Illinois rotation on defense is MIA.
-
No energy on defense. Communication and rotations are piss poor. PSU has a clear path to the basket every time down.
-
Penn State is no slouch, what a terrible start. Solid mask shaming from Tempo.
-
Am I the only one who saw Ayo inbounding the ball when he was clearly past the OOB line?
I don't know how the refs missed that shit lol.

Yeah I saw it and so did Pedo State. One of their players was flailing his arms and bitching about it. I’m surprised the refs didn’t call it. It was pretty blatant.
-
Our defense is full blown aids. Can't keep ball handlers in front and sucky rotations.
-
The high expectations we had were the worst thing for this young team

Full blown aids?! That’s a phrase I’ve never heard before😳😂🤷🏻♂️
-
Penn State has no answer if Illinois keeps looking for Kofi down low.
-

I don’t think this is a young team though.
-
Getting out rebounded 14-11.
14 assists.
4 of 4 at the line.
-
This will be the most important 20 minutes of the season so far.
Nut up or shut up.
-
I agree with Carl
-
Random thought- I’m surprised more college basketball coaches don’t have heart attacks. They freak out (especially Underwood) so much and you’ve gotta think that puts some strain on some of those old guys.

what about us fans? lol

what about us fans? lol
😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 well done. Usually it’s just our nuts that hurt being an Illini fan.
-
we hit free throws!
-
Damonte just got raped and they called the foul on him. Wtf
-
That's on Damonte???
He got fucking mugged LMAO.
-
Kofi is a FUCKING BEAST!!
-
We look energized. Love the hustle! Keep it going for the next 12:30 and we're golden.
-
Grandison is playing hard.
-
Of course the refs fuck us and overturn the three based on inconclusive blurry footage.
-
Grandison looking good
-
These fucking guys are hitting everything against us. They won't go away quietly.
-
Late to get this on but like what I've seen so far, particularly on offense and playing with energy.
-
gotta get back on d
-
If you like defense, this isn't the game for you.
-
Hopefully this is Grandison's coming out party. Kid was tremendous for us tonight.
-
Love AYo sticking up for his teammate!
ok he kinda overreacted lol
-
Curbelo stepped in front of Ayo. Good move.
-
Good to see Ayo standing up for Curbelo.

Grandison perfect from the floor. 7 points and 7 rebounds in 15 minutes. Played hard. Good game.

Thought that early three got him settled down maybe and was solid after that. Miller didn't do too bad either. Going from 15 down to 17 up on the road after dropping 3 of our last 5. Great recovery game. We need to carry this effort over into annihilating Indiana.
-
What a beautiful game to watch offensively. We got guys who can score the rock.
Grandison gets the game ball tonight. Kid was huge for us.
We hit our FTs too! 23/28 from the stripe. Very nice to see.
-
Short bench.

If you like defense, this isn't the game for you.
Defense was good and bad at times, offense was better. I think the rule changes around offensive freedom of movement and shot clock are finally starting to show up in the product in the court.
Over the last 10+ years, the B1G schedule required programs to build these big slow plodding teams that can grind out ugly games. Then you accidentally see a Carolina or Kansas game and you see transition scoring and dunks and lots of points.
It’s no wonder the McDAA types haven’t wanted to play in the B1G. The conference turned basketball into a grind-it-out possession by possession game like football.
We spent a lot of last decade near the bottom of the B1G where sub par teams intentionally try to make it ugly to give themselves a chance to win. Games like this one or the Rutgers game sometimes look like bad defense because we got used to watching absolute shit for over a decade.
These games are reminding me a lot more of 1989 than 1999 or 2009 and that’s awesome. CBB is a much more palatable product when teams spend more time in transition and there’s more scoring and blocking and dunking.

Will take any road win in BIG right now. Fck, will take any home win.
Grandison played well, got on the floor, hit shots. Would be nice if he can become an option, especially with Miller struggling.
Miller minutes going down and his defense even on simple balls screens is atrocious. But entire team looks like they have never seen a pick and roll in their life.
Better offensive effort. Curbelo got us going. Kid is a magician.
-
Good road win and great comeback. I think our guys are starting to figure it out. Adam still looks raw but showed signs tonight. He's got more than a 3 in his repertoire and when it glows, look out!

Last years NBA draft was said to be worst in decades as well. COVID may have easily impacted 75% of draft class last season to stay back another year. Of course just like you mention back in the late 80s and early 90s look at what happens to quality of the game when kids don't rush into the NBA like the last 2 decades.
There are certainly a few other variables contributing to the pace of the game as you stated, would be nice to see them cut the fouls down. It's been fucking ridiculous this season how such insignificant contact has led to such a major impact on the play. I was kind of hoping in the future that they install something similar to what the The Basketball Tournament formatted last year. I was a huge fan of the 8 point rule under 4. Just so many more positives that make the game more fluid and enjoyable. It wont ever happen but like having a 12 team college football playoffs I can still dream.
-
Really hard to say what all of the chaos from Covid did to the draft.
My sense is if a kid was getting info he would go 1st round or higher second by a team that wanted them then they went pro.
Also not sure what to make of the increase in offense in BIG and elsewhere. Might be lack of games and limitations on some other time needed for prep of D.
A lot of weak D from what I have seen.
Definitely teams look less organized than normal and the fundamentals have been going to shit in college for years.

This is most concerning. PSU got into the lane pretty much anytime they wanted.
One thing we did right on defense was not foul. We had a 28-7 FT advantage. Very nice to see.
