Probably another crazy battle between these two squads, so much young talent will be on the floor.
Thinking we win by 3 somehow
ILL!
-
Already 6 offensive rebounds for Rutgers
-
We look slow tonight
-
To me, they look quick and they can rebound
-
More turnovers than made baskets.
-
I retract my original post were gonna lose by double digits
-
Would be nice to stop playing like crap
-
You have to knock down open shots. We're not doing that nor are we collecting the misses. This could get uglier.
-
An 0 for 8 start from 3. Lol
-
You really don't know what you'll get from this team from game to game. Much like the 2022-23 season except there's no one pounding Monsters or punching teammates. Well, to my knowledge anyway.
-
How do you not take a charge there. Terrible defense.
-
We had our opportunities to inch even closer but I'll take being down single digits at half after that crap start.
-
2/17 from three. Lol.
-
Annually, the ILLINI under BU tend to get better, we are in Feb 2025, and I actually think we are getting worse, we do not play well with others, we barely play well with each other, we seem to want the ball, we seem to not be able to do anything with it once we get it, some want to fancy pass, when all we really need is an old fashion bounce/chest pass, as you can see this observation is as disjointed as our ILLINI play right now.
-
Ace Bailey, what a fun loving kid to watch ball out, that said, he drags his pivot foot ALOT. He will fit right in next year in the league. He is a blast to watch, helluva player, smile all the time, he has a smooth game about him like Gervin/Durant, but taller.
-
Maybe Riley can get a couple dozen points this half.
-
We could claw back
-
We could claw back
Maybe win by 3 somehow.
-
Looking bleak
-
Can't grab a rebound when we need it most. Fuck.
-
GARBAGE PLAY ON THE ROAD, injuries or not, c'mon, our ILLINI got owned tonight.
-
Unranked. Uninspired. Unintelligent.
-
Another huge embarrassing failure.
-
Unranked. Uninspired. Unintelligent.
Underachiever!
-
I get to call him Underwhelm again
-
6/28 from three. Keep shooting them! Great fucking plan.
-
6 of 28 from 3 for 21%.
They scored 18 off our 13 turnovers.
They outscored us by 15 at the free shot line.
-
That was pretty painful to watch, we are pretty mediocre right now
-
We win going away if Tomi doesn’t get hurt. That was the turning point. He’s the guy that allows us to hit the next two gears. We haven’t been the same since the injury and sickness bugs hit. KJ is hot garbage right now. Don’t know if it’s the injury or he’s just hit the wall. It seems like he still hasn’t figured out how tough and quick college defenders are in the states. He’s throwing these passes like he’s playing pro ball with lollygagging defenders. Rutgers help defense was really good tonight.
-
Need to face the fact that Illinois is now a football school.
-
Bruce>Underwood?
-
KJ is playing like he hit the wall and he wouldn't be the 1st freshman to do it. Meanwhile the 2 Rutgers freshmen be like, what wall ?
Rutgers looked to me to be a little like Maryland. Tall, athletic and quick but not as physical. tOSU is favored tonight, we'll see.

KJ has essentially been playing pro basketball since 2021. Why is the hit the wall excuse gaining any traction?

Bruce only has this poor of a conference record 2x, I read somewhere

His last 4 games he is averaging 11 points a game and 4 for 22 from 3. He's 0 for 7 his last 2 games.
Maybe he's not healthy, I don't know, but he had 1 bucket in the 2nd half and no free shot attempts.
He had 2 points in the 2nd half vs tOSU. On free shots.

He left a couple of free shots short on the front rim I thought. Maybe the arm is bothering him.

Maybe the arm is bothering him.
If so, that would fall under not being healthy. Maybe Sparty broke him

To be fair Harper just missed an entire month of games and probably most practices with a bum ankle and flu I believe. That said KJ should not be hitting the wall so to speak with his level/length of play already against grown men in an international environment.
We will see how this plays out, I think KJ is just a super talented kid who "feeds" off and gets better when he is uber confident, which I don't think he is right now.

Can't wait to see who stupidly goes for 2 this Sunday because of Analytics!!

I remember when Illinois was not an excuse organization and a Final Four team.

He hasn't been the same since his injury to his arm, so that might have something to do with it

Welp

Nothing wrong with using analytics.
You have to have the personnel to make it work.
We don't have enough good three point shooters or guys that get to the rim consistently for close twos.
It's based on threes and layups and making enough of them.
We clearly do better when we dial back the threes lately.
This team can't shoot the longball well enough to warrant the number of threes they take.
Rebounding is impressive but you have to make shots and take more shots that you can make.

analytics doesnt show grit, strength, heart determination.
It doesn't show Lucas Johnson getting in other team's heads
It doesn't show John Paxson looking at M.J. saying "I'll be open"
Analytics doesn't show New England coming back from a 28-3 score
Analytics is analytics
-
It’s a little concerning to me that we have guys that have shot it pretty well in other stops and can’t hit water from a boat here.

It seems to be a recurring theme every year too

Not sure if you are serious. You are not one of the top rebounding teams in country without effort.
The effort is good out there that I can see.
Just not built for this style of taking 30+ threes a game.
They clearly do better trying to attack the lane more.
We are now ranked 27th in country in 3Pt attempts rate.
We are 316th in 3Pt percentage made.

Trust all content from THEPAMan as it is usually backed up by statistical evidence (except when it is not)!

Shot selection plays a huge part in this too. Someone might want to tell Brad that Boswell chucking up an early shot clock step back three works the same as a turnover. It's just a really stupid shot.

to be fair a lot of these kids are going a big step up in competition
most conferences don't play defense as well as they do in the big ten

They seem to miss their fair share of wide open 3s though....

Sencire Harris 4-44 9.1%
Amani Hansberry 22-78 28.2%
Coleman Hawkins 27-84. 32.1%
Luke Goode 45-109 41.3%

I think it's part of the package. He's got a pretty good record. He's got a shooter's mentality about 3's.
