Title: Illini @ Indiana 12/14/25 6 PM CST on a Channel

Illini -3.5, KJ is a game time decision.

Don’t like it. Feels like a must win now after that abortion Saturday.

Don't like it either. It's got the makings of the wrong kind of 3 game streak.

I’m 100% expecting Luke Goode to come out hitting threes like Steph Curry tonight. Because Illinois.

We'll have to settle for handing IU their 2nd worst loss in the fake Assembly Hall. Could have had the top spot if we didn't fuck around for the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Limited T/O, handle the boards, out stole them, and out scored them with pts and %, good bounce back. Biggie up next, Spartans and Wolverines are both rolling right now. Both of those games will be tough for us.

Spartans - Make Fears/Richardson drive into help defense, cannot let either get going from 3 Pt land. Carr will be the X-Factor for them imo, keep Kohler off the boards, we handle them there.

This game will be a good one start to finish.

When we make threes and rebound teams get buried early and quit. When we don’t they stick around. Tough part is determining when to quit jacking threes and get points at the rim. The staff needs to figure that out asap because we can do both whenever we want against whoever we play. Playing the analytics game is great until everyone sleepwalks into a game and shoots like shit.

We played some pretty good defense in Bloomington. When we're not shooting and/or we're sleepwalking it's time to focus on the defense. Do that and our offense usually follows.

This. You have to have multiple ways to score and to stay in games when you are not shooting well. The teams that make runs can win by grinding it out and making stops when not hitting.

We implemented this strategy against Oregon imo, not sure why we don't every game with the overall talent we have. We easily have 3-4 players that are legit 3 pt shooters, and we also have a legit 3-4 players that can drive and score with high %, with our rebounding ability on top of that, we should not waiver from the game plan that won us the Oregon game....against ANYBODY.

Granted we shot 50%+ from 3, but our ability to score elsewhere facilitated that as well.

I guess in my mind defense is non-negotiable and should always be high effort. I think you pointed out that taking and missing late 3s at Washington when we could get anything we wanted inside almost cost us the game. Morez is developing nicely on the offensive end, love what Tomi brings from a skill perspective but he is the definition of a finesse big man and needs to figure out how to finish contested shots inside for us to come close to our ceiling in March. I’m just worried the staff’s love affair with the 3 ball is going to end up costing us in the tourney. Would love to see some effort down the stretch to balance things out a bit, maybe 3-5 fewer “settle” threes a game in favor of more touches inside.

Geez. We are 4th in Torvik and 9th in KenPom.

We are a pretty average 3pt percentage shooting team (33%), but we are 24th in country in taking them.
As noted we might want to adjust that a little bit.  ;D

I think this argument has been presented in previous years 😁
Underwood's response appears to be 'keep shooting'.

I don't think BU will deviate from this, he is on record as wanting an up and down Flying ILLINI type of feel at all times. He is promoting just a different sort of Flyin ILLINI...(they letting them 3's go).

I actually don't mind the occasional loss with this strategy, they are still maddening, but with this type of exciting offense (85-100 pts per game), lends itself to the occasional letdown. That said, Let Em Fly!!!

We have reduced the shooting of bad 3s by the wrong people and/or at the wrong time from past years. That's a big plus

I think the justification for shooting so many threes is partly because we crash the offensive glass and get a ton of second chances off the misses. Sometimes I think our best offense is a missed three because it seems we always find an open guy in the scramble. Even with all that I think there are few each game we settle for a contested three when we ought to feed it to a big.
