Would think the popular choices.  Ergo, the Illini will fuck it up and will need one from IA or WI.

Wisky will likely be down their starting QB. Yeah he wasn't very good but their backup is unproven. That one is winnable.

There's a good chance I'll be out of town but the gofer audio system is also eardrum shatteringly loud.

I had no illusions that we would beat the Terps and none that we can get a road win at xxxx, so I'll go with we need 1 vs the weasels or the rodents. Hopefully Mordecai is out and the gofs get banged up at xxxx this Saturday and mugged by Sparty the following weekend.
I'm good with winning our next 3.

It has long been posited — mostly by apologists — that Illinois is the type of place where it’s next to impossible to sustain success. That’s a load of excuse-laden bull, though. It always has been a matter of hiring the right coach, at which Illinois has been its own worst enemy. Unless, of course, Bielema is that guy. And he might be.

There are games upcoming against Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern. All those teams are beatable. There will be no excuses good enough to shield the man in charge if the season doesn’t end with some lower-tier bowl assignment or another.

That is not Murder's Row at this point,  Mn. If he can't pull 3 wins out, that is on him and his roster construction (in year 3).

Ray Eliot, Pete Elliot, Mike White, John Mackovic.

I am not sure if:

*Any of them would be good enough based on overall revords.

*we could attract an up and coming coach of that caliber at this point.

A BB level retread is probably the best we can do.

It's paywalled. But what I could see ..

Yep, we lost to PSU. I never expected a win.
Yep, we lost at PU. I hoped for a win but didn't expect one. They have our number.
Yep, we lost to Nebraska. That was a win we needed to get to 6-6. So we need to beat Wisco or the gofs to get to 6-6.

Yep, we lost a ton of players and a DC who had us at the top of the country. 5-7 was never out of the question.

All you have to do is given them your email and set up a password. I pasted the important parts.

It is year 3 for Bielema. Where are his guys? Where his OL, more importantly?

I understand the last point but Bielema came in and tried to reconnect to the IHSA coaches that Lovie left behind. That doesn't happen in 1 year.
Altmyer had no experience coming in and we don't have a Chase Brown and didn't get McCray back. It's taken several games but the Md game was the 1st game this year that we resembled a power 5 team. I never expected a win at Md. They've got some skill players and this is supposed to be one of their better teams. We got a win on an NBC national game.

Greenberg can take a hike.

They are averaging close to as many yard on offense as they did last year. Problems have been the penalties and turnovers. Guys can be overmatched out there, but all the mental mistakes is on the coaching. Yesterday was the first time in awhile the other team shot itself in the foot instead of the Illini shooting themselves in the foot.

Because Altmyer has been ok for a rookie. I'd go portal over him if I could but the picks have been the turnover problem. He only had 1 yesterday and it wasn't his fault.
Bringing in new players can be an adjustment and penalties happen but the penalties by players who should know better and at the wrong time have hurt them.

Altmyer has an arm similar to DeVito but no experience. DeVito is back-up QB on the Giant tonight.

Exactly. The two veteran guys that touched the ball the most on offense last year are playing on Sundays this year. The guys that replaced them had little experience.

Mordecai is out indefinitely with a broken throwing hand leaving Wisco going with their 2nd stringer, redshirt freshman Braedyn Locke.

And from the small world worthless information category ....
Locke transferred to Wisco from Ms State. Ole Miss transfer Altmyer was born in Starkville and his Dad is a team doc at Ms State.

The offense is gaining about as many yards as it was gaining last year. The problem has been turnovers,  penalties, and field position (the defense cannot get off the field). The 1st 2 of those things are definitely on coaching. The third is a combo of personnel and coaching.

Can we stop with the Justin Fields Like Excuses for Bielema? This is the staff he picked. They need to do a far better job.

Who was that shitty QB from Wisky that had his career game against us? Because I can see this Locke dude doing that. Just seems to happen to Illinois.

Turnovers are on the coaches? I’m inclined to believe the increased turnovers have more to do with the younger, more inexperienced players that physically touch the ball rather than the coaches standing on the sidelines. Coincidentally the same coaches that managed not to turn it over much last year. Guess they forgot how to coach against the turnovers!

The penalties I’ll give you, although there’s definitely an element of inexperience that comes into play there as well.

Yes the defense has really struggled at times after losing some really good players to the pros/injury. They’ve also had some really good stretches and then ultimately got worn down because the offense put them in terrible positions.

Yes, because of penalties, turnovers, and field position.
We get yards in spite of penalties, turnovers and field position but we don't score points because of penalties, turnovers and field position.

I've seen plenty of Illinois teams who got yards between the 20s and couldn't put points on the board.

The numbers I saw recently were that Illinois averaged 380 something yards last year and this year it was 377. Average points were lower, as was noted.

Red zone offense doesn't necessarily come easy with a Soph QB with 1 start under his belt entering the season.

Couldya give him 3-5 more games ?

That is true. But the red zone was an issue last year as well. I do not think we are in the red zone as much as we were last year as we are starting with worse field position this year as the D is not as good or getting as many turnovers.

You do not believe he needs 7 years like Dak Prescott has gotten?  2.5 years is apparently not enough.

As I said earlier, I'd go portal over him if I could. And that would be after 12 starts at Illinois, assuming he stays healthy and remains the starter, and 13 starts total.
We do have returning experience on the OL and I have no idea what the issue is there, but Reggie Love is no Chase Brown.
And Lunney should stop taking in-game cat naps.
