For the 11th time, I’ll try to explain what I’m talking about in regards to “his car!” I never once said “Can’t draft Caleb, look at the car he drives!” What I said is that I would be curious enough to ask if there have been any noticeable changes in Caleb since “getting paid.” I can assure you, had I been given a couple million dollars at 21 I’d have been out there making some questionable decisions. I even remember multiple Chicago Bears saying fortune and fame became a distraction for 50 year old Mike Ditka in the mid 80s, and believe me, that dude had a lot more than just coaching the Bears on his mind. He was everywhere.

Even Custard agreed it seemed like a point POTENTIAL interest. About a week after I said that, I heard Dave Wannstedt say that teams will hire private investigators to look into the top prospects. I wasn’t even talking that level of scrutiny, I was implying I’d ask a handful of people around Caleb and the program if they’ve noticed any changes in his personality. “OMG that’s way too much scrutiny!”

I have ZERO problem with Caleb attending a golf tournament, it actually makes me LIKE him more. But I did think it’s not the best look to be farting around while important business of the Chicago Bears, the franchise he’s likely to be leading for the next 15 years is on the back burner. I want someone who shows a high level of urgency during perhaps the biggest month of his life.

My concern level on this? A 2, maybe 3 on a scale of 10. OMG that’s too much scrutiny!

As I’ve said multiple times, minus a serious revelation, I am drafting this kid if I’m Ryan Poles. OMG so unfair to Caleb!

So I will say this…I am willing to concede that my (mostly pretty minor!) “concerns” about Caleb could easily turn out to be overly skeptical. I’d also confess that some of my skepticism is likely born of my lack of desire to see a change at quarterback.

Are you willing to concede that maybe (just maybe!) your eagerness to give him a complete pass on literally every conceivable critique could also be a mistake? I’d be surprised if you did. I can’t think of a single thing you’ve “dinged” him for.
