You never answered the question. Is Jonathon Toews a “quitter?” He’s played dozens upon dozens of games in his condition. Clearly he could “fight through” this. QUITTER.

He has. And he has not been any good in so doing. He physically, as opposed to mentally, is unable to perform at a high, or even average, level anymore.

Given how you do not understand the word "verbatim," I can see how the difference here is mentally challenging for you.

He has played through it and was not any good. He's 34 years old and does not have it anymore. If it is Long COVID, auto-immune whatever, his body cannot do it. I am sure mentally he still has the same drive.

Of course you do not because you used some shitty online dictionary apparently. Try using a real dictionary next time like Cambridge or Oxford. "Verbatim" is to use the same words in the same way they were originally used orally or as written.  The "quotes" were part of the written sentence. Ergo, to be a verbatim transcription, they needed to be included.

I am unsure what his physical condition was when he was on the ice. I know he did not perform at the same level as he had in the past. That happens as you age. It also happens when you age and played as he did for years and maybe have other physical issues. When your body won't perform, it is not "mental."
