concerning the steps it has taken and the prospect of further steps"

The "administrative error" was deporting him to his home country that no longer has the gang problem that it had when Abrego Garcia was denied asylum.
He had removal orders and the SCOTUS opinion is to facilitate his release and to send him somewhere other than El Salvador.

So basically they should follow the rules in seeking to deport him instead of what they did.

The fact that he was deported is not the issue. The issue is where he was deported to.
The President of El Salvador will be in D.C. tomorrow. Maybe he can give the guy a ride on the plane and drop him off at GITMO on the return flight to El Salvador. Or just fly into U.S. airspace and then drop him off at GITMO before landing in D.C.

I think SCOTUS is giving some weight to foreign affairs. The guy is a native of El Salvador and he's in El Salvador. I suppose the U.S. could start extradition hearings or maybe the Judge should just go knock on Bukele's door to demand he fly the guy back to the U.S. so we can send him to Gitmo.

Wrong. The only crime he committed was unlawful entry. He had permission to remain. He has met all the conditions. His status was changed because he was misidentified as a member of a terrorist gang. He was illegally deported without due process.

He is married, working, and supporting three special needs children, all who are American citizens. He poses no threat and has extended family who are citizens. There is no reason to deport him. He should probably be granted resident status.

If they want to deport him, bring him back and relitigate his status.

He had removal orders, just not to El Salvador.
And they did deport him.

From the govt: "He is detained pursuant to the sovereign, domestic authority of El Salvador."

If El Salvador deports and flies a U.S. citizen here who is then detained by authorities would you expect El Salvador to intervene on the person's behalf ?

The administration has said many times over the last few months that when undertaking operations this size and scale that mistakes were going to be made, and when they were, they would work to correct them asap. Decrying the whole operation because the enemedia dredged up a one-off case and spun it to outrage sensitive liberals is par for the course, however. Don’t talk about all the bad ones that are gone, latch onto the one mistake and scream at the top of your lungs.
