Jobs not available to poor kids in the city. No beans. No corn to detassel. No lawns. No kindly old neighbor who will pay them to shovel the sidewalk, and leaves are dealt with by leaf blowers. And ain't nobody delivering eggs or papers.
I bought a 10 speed. Always had plenty of money to what I wanted, movies, etc. . Didn't have to beg my parents.
I also had a good summer job during high school into college, due to family influence. I had to work hard, but it was fun. I had plenty of gas and party money.
My parents were good teachers. An older sibling taught me to read and write before I attended kindergarten. I already knew all the colors, shapes, counting, and so on. My parents had friends in high places so I never got in any trouble. We weren't all that wealthy, but school was easy, and my childhood life was easy.
