Indeed. People were just waiting for the pandemic to end so they could go eat 50 eggs and drive up the prices.
Pent up demand for groceries. That's a good one.
Thanks! It is a good one.
Guess what was open and full of people in 2022 and 2023 that weren’t open and full of people in much of 2020 and 2021?
Restaurants. Cruise ships. Hotels. Resorts. Ball parks. Churches. Business centers. Malls. Holiday parties. Neighborhood get-togethers. Real estate open houses. Culinary tours. Music venues. Etc etc.
All of which crank up demand for food commodities. People consume more food at restaurants and on cruise ships than they do at home. Food waste is also higher. Higher demand equals higher prices and price inflation.
Plus more people had more money to keep spending on overpriced food (and other consumables) thanks to the government printing so much of it during the pandemic. Which is why we had to crank interest rates and try to slow everything down because it was overheated.
Apparently a passing grade in Econ 101 isn’t a prerequisite to get a job at Nvidia.
