Sorry you are offended by being challenged on your illogical comments. I know you are not used to that here. I deal in actual outcomes. Underwood is a pretty mediocre coach by objective standards. I have regularly given him significant credit
for the 19/20 season. He had a tough defensive system by second half, took Ayo off the ball where he was much better, and other guys contributed on a balanced scoring team.
Otherwise he has been pretty much just a guy. The new contract is bizarre but they found enough rich guys to foot the bill.
Maybe you think he is actually a top 10 coach. I don't give a shit either way about it. They are all overpaid.
6th year in P5. 93-70. 49-47 in conference play. 1-2 in NCAA tourney and arguably one of worse losses in Illinois history.
I even give him 5 more years barring a Weber like collapse. I assume we will make the tourney this year and maybe a couple more times during that period.
And maybe you wish to discuss our start with some admittedly tough breaks. This is where one might separate the sheep from the goats.
This is where other relatively average guys like Gard and Painter earn their pay.
At least we should compete better, see better basic execution and adjustments even if we lose.
Lets see what Underwood's team does tonight and the next two games because it will require a lot of coaching and motivation.
I don't even care if we lose. The season is not make or break in November and December. But just compete and execute at a higher level.
