What did they call? What was the down and situation?

Fourth and half a yard. Lined up and faked a run up the middle and then tossed to Brown on a sweep. Had one guy in the open field to beat and he probably would have taken it to the house but the defender made a helluva shoe string tackle.

Tucker used the transfer portal to overhaul the team because he knew it was not good.

Meanwhile, Bert shows up and is left whining about his 2 deep.

https://www.mlive.com/spartans/2021/08/how-mel-tucker-is-using-the-transfer-portal-to-overhaul-michigan-state-football.html

Ok so you realize that Tucker took basically the entire roster he inherited into the 2020 season, went 2-5, THEN cleaned house and brought in 20 transfers.

Bert came in and decided to keep the veterans, culled some of the guys from the last couple classes that weren’t going to cut it in this scheme. (They all transferred to low level schools, BTW) and brought in a few transfers.

In the 34 minute interview that Tempo doesn’t have time to watch, he discusses the evaluation process and how they’re going to clean house and rebuild the roster. Which is where the whole 2 deep comment came from. It wasn’t whining, it was recognizing a problem he has to fix.

So in the end Tempo and you are mad at him for laying out the plans to do exactly what you’re praising Tucker for.

Brown just sat there shaking his head. Couldn’t believe it. He tried to beat him to the outside and got tripped up. If he’d have juked/cut it inside he probably goes to the house untouched.

“Whining” wasn’t the point. It’s that you don’t speak poorly of your players to the media; comparing them to a race horse without pedigree. Maybe I overreacted a bit in calling him “trash,” but for the life of me, I can’t see how calling him out on that is out of line or controversial.

Looks like Tucker followed 14 years of Dantonio with probably some semblance of year in and year out roster construction. Looks like 27 players transferred out which leaves a lot of bodies to replace.
Since the Zooker, we've had Beckman, Cubit and Lovie. Bielema gave the players the option to stay, and a half dozen or so transferred out. Bielema should have plenty of roster spots to fill after this year. I assume he will be active in the transfer portal in his 2nd year, as was Tucker.

This is the play where everybody else has players push the ball carrier forward
Posted before they ran the 4th down play

The db stayed home and made a good play. Running an isolation 1 on 1 play on a down that means staying alive for a bowl game chance was too much thinking, imo.

Bottom line is they never should have let Lovie in the locker room at halftime.

Just line up and show if you’re man enough to win. No trickery, just bulldoze the shit out of them

Does Samari Collier get some snaps now ?
At the gofs for his first action would be a better choice than at xxxx.

I don't know how you don't pound that straight up the middle. A touchdown loses the game so at the time out you know they stressed staying home and watching for play action. No one will ever fault a call if the line can't get a half yard.

The old Lollinois school of thought. Well that worked, no reason trying it again.

The whole country pushes the ball carrier forward for more yardage.
Not us.
We've done it a couple of times this year. It's just not in the play book.

Couldn’t find a video of the 4th down play. Anyone have one?

One would think his watching any tape from the last couple of years would have caused him to reach the conclusion he discussed last week.
