Once you find yourself more concerned with who said something than what was actually said, your objectivity is completely gone.
There are a million different topics and lots of different ways to feel about each one. As someone who champions free thought and abhors group think/identity politics, I must also accept there are going to be times when feeling a certain way about a particular topic might seem to align me with a group that maybe I’d rather not be aligned with. Doesn’t mean I belong to that group or share any other values with them, but essentially that’s what it’s come to mean in this divided society. “If you don’t agree with me on everything we can’t agree on anything.” Everyone is constantly on the lookout for “one of them”
It’s not really one or two topics that matter, it’s where a person falls across a broad spectrum of topics that begins to define their worldview. Group think, “reprogramming” and this constant suspicion about our fellow countrymenandwomen is incredibly dangerous.
